Insurers - who are you with?

I thought this was very odd and made me wonder if the Cali is an MPV car, van or motor home.

LOL, well lots of Cali owners have argued at various times that it's a car, a van, a camper, or a MH. Depending on if they're talking about VAT, road tax, Eurotunnel charges, parking at the beach, campsite access, or of course insurance and much else.

On insurance: I've been using Adrian Flux (whom I've also used for my classic and kit cars). Last year was £325 but waiting for their renewal proposal.

[EDIT] Just got an online quote from Comfort: £270. (For SD&P use). Interesting that they don't seem to care what vehicle it is, just that it's a pop-top camper.

I expect you’ll be getting a phone call and they will take all the details of the van. I’ve just purchased insurance through Comfort, £350 including business 1, very happy with that, particularly as they’ll do new for old for the first 3 years for brand new vehicles. That’s amazing value in my opinion. :thumb

I was with Saga last year cost was £212 app. This year renewal came through at £357 !!! no circumstances had changed. No explanation as to why?

Big thanks again to all on this site for the help and advice, particularly this thread. After reading the posts on insurance I am now with ‘Comfort’. Came in at £237. (A tenner off after mentioning this forum)
The policy includes quite a few bells and whistles that other ridiculous quotes wanted as extras. CCC where more than double.

I am well chuffed now and proper knackered after the graft and legwork. But well worth it. To quote an earlier post, ‘It does Pay to put the time in’..

Thanks to all.

Just went with Safeguard. They quoted £389 on the phone at which point I told them is looking at a screen of quotes at or around £300. Short pause later “We can get it down to £308”, took that as it included UK and European breakdown cover.

This is for a 2010 140 SE, SDP and 8,000 miles for a first time owner, using club discount

Just renewed with Safeguard using the club discount for £488. Very pleased as this was over £80.00 cheaper than both camping clubs.

Edit - This is for a 2016 Ocean 10,000 miles a year daily commute / main vehicle parked on a road.

I just hope you never have to make a claim.

At the end of the day the bigest issue is "when you have to claim". (as you all know) We had £9000 claim 2 years ago when we were rear ended at a roundabout. Other party did not tell his insurance company for about a week. By that time my company had arranged a hire car, agreed VW approved repair. The thrid party insurance company then started talking to us they were trying to get a cheaper hire car and what appeared to be a back street repairer, threats of we will only fund x amount a day for hire car and x amount per hour per labour (well below vw bodyshop rate). All addressed by my claims manager. All costs recovered and paid for by the other party. From my claim - Caravan and Motorhome Club cover worked for me not the cheapest but could not fault.

About to renew with Safeguard at £426, which is in fact, up £40 from last year :(. No mileage limitation, not used for commuting & kept on the drive. Missus included on the policy, but she’s never driven it yet. (She’s the back-up, should I fail the 11 o’clock time-to-leave-the-pitch breathalyser test. :mute)

Adrian Flux are cheap for a reason, possibly the worst insurance company you could deal with, I can only assume you have not read other forums about them and seen their Trust pilot reviews.

Hi,
As a company we do take customer service extremely seriously. As a broker with a large number of policyholders you are always going to attract some unfavorable reviewed I'm afraid. This will be the same for most similar size brokers or insurers.
Regards,
Dan.

How many claims have you had with them ?

There we go then, we can't say how good or bad an insurer is until a claim has been put in, they can all offer wonderful sales talk and low prices, the real test is how easy that make it when you need to claim.

Arghh...I’ve just got off the phone with Comfort & Safeguard who both told me they won’t insure a Cali for Business use.

Safeguard put me on to Scenic Insurance, but quite frankly it would be more cost effective buying a cheap runaround!

Adrian Flux were much more friendly and helpful, but the quote is much higher than I want to pay out.

One of my issues is coming off a fleet car policy after 12 years I haven’t any no claims, just a letter saying I’m accident free...apparently this just won’t do, so all my quotes are astronomical.

I will give LV a call as their name keeps popping up on the forum...wish me luck!

I needed business use and parked on street which meant that none of the “specialists” would quote. We’ve already got two cars with Direct Line so I tried them; they gave a reasonable quote. I asked about transferring my existing no claims from my Golf which reduced the Cali quote by nearly £200 but only added around £50 to my Golf’s premium. Genuinely impressed!

Quickest I’ve arranged insurance. :)
Actually cheaper than last year !!!

Renewed with Camping & Carvanning Club ( members) still have new for old.
£248 ( only social & commuting). Use as a second car with 9+ no claims . Cali parked on drive.

Hi,
Did you try ourselves at all for insurance as we should be able to offer a quote for on street parking and business use?
Regards,
Dan.
Yes, I did, along with the rest of the specialist insurers. I got nowhere, and to my great surprise, Direct Line were incredibly helpful and accommodating.

I had a horrendous time trying to insure my new beach. I was getting quotes of >1000 and all the usual places wouldn't even touch me. I later discovered this was due to the high list price of the vehicle. By luck I stumbled upon Elephant and the most helpful agent in the world. She arranged a couple of callbacks to check on things and I ended up switching my house and other car insurance to them saving an absolute fortune.
