So were off to Ireland for the first time later this year and would appreciate any campsite recommendations or indeed any to avoid.

Route we're thinking of is along the lines of Kinsale, Dingle, Doolin, Clifden, Westport, Galway.

Thanks in advance

First thing I would add, is don't miss out the Bantry area. There is a lovely campsite called Eagle Point camping between Bantry & Glengarrif. Fantastic site, but take it slowly and enjoy the drive from Kinsale. From Eagle Point go to Glengarrif & get a boat over to Garnish Island. Lots of seals basking on the rocks. Beautiful gardens and a Martello tower.
Then drive down the peninsular to the Healey Pass. A lovely twisty winding road with fantastic views. Then onto the Ring of Kerry and Wave Crest Caravan Park. Again a lovely site set on the coast with sandy beaches. If you can avoid getting an EHU at either site you get a much wider choice of pitches and can choose the pitch you like best. There are other threads on here and I'm sure others will join in.
But these two sites seem to have been enjoyed by quite a few people.
There is a very useful ferry at Tarbert which cuts out a long drive around the Shannon. We didn't find the area on the south side of the estuary good value, a bit too touristy for us.
Lisdoonvarna is a lovely place and they have an unusual matchmaking festival there. Christy Moore has sung a memorable song about the place.
Doolin is great with two lovely pubs, both with great music in them.

Have a great holiday. We are looking to go there again ourselves before too long.

Also, visit the cliffs of mohar. There is a campsite by the coast, can't find the name at the moment, but will try.
