Leisure batteries not talking to control panel

Hi,
I've read related threads but no wiser I'm afraid.

Engine off and not hooked up, the control switches off the fridge because it believes the leisure batteries are dead.
Both leisure batteries are fully charged.
I've checked the fuse on the rear battery and it looks fine.
Unfortunately, the plastic(?) double nut under the red cap disintegrated on reattachment. I reconnected the terminal anyway - is this a problem?
Is there another fuse i have to check re the control panel discrepancy?

A little more information would help.
What voltage is shown on the Control Panel?
Have you reset the Control Panel and checked for any Diagnostic Codes?

For those of you who don't know, if you ever get any problems with roof stuck or any other error say with the heater or fridge, you are able to access the hidden menu in your control panel as used by the VW Engineers.

Access as follows:



1. Hold down the centre of the rotary button together with the menu button (button below with the squares on it)

2. You will get the hidden menu.

3. Rotate the rotary button to get to "VW diagnose" and select this by pressing on the centre of the rotary button.

4. If no errors are present it will display "no errors"

5. If Errors are present then a list of errors will appear

6. Press the centre of the rotary button again to delete all the errors

7. Repeat process above just to check that errors have dissapeared!

8. Re-configure the time and date if neccesary.



Any problems should be resolved assuming these are Electronic and not Mechanical.

Do you have access to a multimeter? If so can you check the voltage on both batteries (check under the fuse on the rear battery, not above it). Both should be the same, and match the control panel number more or less. Anything different would raise an eyebrow - maybe the earth shunt under the fridge is broken or faulty as I believe that is used by the control panel to measure the leisure voltage.

Thanks for the replies.

The control panel runs quickly down to 0% after being hooked up or the engine running, so switching off the fridge.
I've checked both batteries and they are fully charged.

I will try the fault codes, thank you.

Is there a fuse chart for the T5 on here, please? Mine is in German.

Hi Ian,

Actually, no. I took it to an auto electrician on the day I was leaving for holiday and he narrowed it down to the split charge relay. We didn't have time to remove the seat to replace it though. Keep in touch and I'll let you know what happens.

I had a similair problem, where the voltage reading on the control panel went down way to quickly and the batteries turned out to be just fine. First guess was that it was running on only 1 leisure battery. But eventually this turned out to be the earth shunt problem that @steve_b is referring to.
