What are the symptoms to look for re battery giving up?

Is this a trick question :crazy

Batteries not holding charge.
Things not running for as long as they should (fridge/lighting etc).
Presence of another large maintenace bill for a non related item.

I've just ordered 2 new batteries.

Varta 80ah AGM £140 Each

Code is LA80 from 'JCB' (just car batteries)

VW wanted £210 Each!!

As a note to all, I just got 2 x 90 AH Xplorer for £80 each.

They are from http://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/ but their ebay shop had them £10 cheaper.

For the same price (currently) they have an AGM version, which would *probably* fit. 2 reasons I didn't go for them: 1 my measurements would only have to be a couple of mm out and I'd be screwed and the terminals were the other way around. That would be OK for the rear, but I couldn't be bothered to go out to the van again to see if it would have been OK for the front given the measurements were so tight.

I tossed up over the straight leisure battery or stick with AGM (factory fitted)

Decided to stick with AGM as they charge quicker and will not gas.

Batteries arrived today and are perfect fit.

Only took half hour to change both.
