I read an article recently in Campervan magazines about mattress toppers and in particular the Panda brand. My wife often goes on about getting one to put on our VW mattress. Does anyone use a topper and is it something that can be left on the mattress when you bring the roof down?

I bought a Panda topper for our van and then also one for home. Just couldn't bring myself to pay the stupid prices for the custom fit ones like Duvalay. It certainly makes the bed softer and although I've not tried you can apparently cut the foam to a custom shape relatively easily.

Just had a look at the Panda ones. Look interesting. Their UK small double is 135 quid and 5cm vs the Duvalay cheapest option which is 2.5cm and 150. If you got the Duvalay 5cm Equivilent then it’s 170. You can of course go the full bifta and get the upgrades that takes either option to 230.

So at it’s best, it is a 15 quid difference, at the equivalent, 35 and worst, 95. What they feel like in comparison you would have to try them both but we like our Duvalay (the 230 one) even if it is a pain in the backside to travel with.

You could argue, based on marketing spiel, that the Panda is equivalent to their Duvalay Freshtech one, which is 230, but who knows.

Personally a good nights sleep is worth what you are willing to pay for it, and I have a thing about supporting UK made products like Duvalay, vs far east mattresses in a box, so we have always been happy with our choice.

Agree with dspuk. We purchased these as it works so well for us . We also bought the fitted sheets (£35) extra for two fitted sheets. These are removable for washing. This makes it so easy to roll out the 2 single toppers in the pop top with the fitted sheets already on. It's a perfect fit and conversely when rolling them up storage is much easier for us on the back shelf as they are split in half . Super comfortable and a big improvement for us as we always like sleeping in the pop top. They can also be used on the downstairs bed according to their advert.
Yes, more expensive but for us well worth it. We always remove them from them the pop top when we close the roof down. During the day with pop top up they are ok to be left on when you push the bed up for headroom.

Fair point, economies of scale I guess. But for a custom cut mattress for the Sven's odd shaped bed the cost of Duvalay over a Panda was well over double the cost.

If you fancy a Duvalay.
I have one for sale.
