We had a very productive meeting at VWHQ today and we really felt they valued the comments and feedback of Forum members.

We left them with a long list of questions that members had submitted to us and they promised they would provide answers but these had to be ratified by VW Hanover first before submission because they want to make sure that there are no inaccuracies in their statements.

They stated that they would like to have dialogue with the Forum in the future. So, all in all, this sounds quite promising.

We will update as soon as they get back to us.

Good work graham thanks very much for your time and effort :thumb

Sounds like you had a good positive meeting. Thanks for doing this on behalf of the forum.
Look forward to their response to our questions.

Great work Graham, thank you very much for doing this on behalf of all the members.

It is really appreciated :thumb

Sounds like a good thing - what was the meeting about?

:thanks
Look forward to VW's reply.

Thanks for your efforts Graham.
I look forward to some unambiguous answers.

Thanks for putting the effort in on everyone's behalf, we would be having a nightmare approaching the corroding problems individually.

Thanks

Excellent news Graham, really appreciate you taking the time and once again my apologies I wasn't able to come with you.

Thank you from me.

Many thanks for your hard work on this.
Ian.

Hi Graham,

Thank you for all your efforts.

Is it possible to publish the questions raised and did VW offer a timeline of when they would respond?

Best regards,

Mark

Excellent work!

Something that came up after I enquired was the totally useless (and very expensive) extended "warranty" - £1700 for a £2500 max claim limit!!! Was that mentioned at all?

After many trips to the dealer (just picked ours up after eight WEEKS!), I think I'm fairly au fait with the common issues; shout if you need any details of them.

Below in red is the list of questions that we have left with VW. It may be some time before we get answers because VW want to defer to Hanover before they respond, which is only reasonable and to be expected.

Proof that they are taking the Cali Club seriously was that we met with:
Head of Customer Quality & Network Development
Head of Press and PR
Head of Service & Parts

We were there for over two hours of quite intense discussions. We really think they are taking the Cali Club seriously and the issues associated with Cali ownership. They have also suggested that they enter into dialogue with the club on regular intervals in the future - which will obviously be of benefit to both parties.

As well as naming and shaming some dealers, we did praise others, and we did try to show the positives of Cali owning as well as the negatives so hopefully this came over.

Graham

ITEMS REQUIRING ANSWERS FROM VW

GENERAL COMMENTS

Set up specialised dealerships for California servicing – many van dealers not up to task of servicing a £50,000-£60,000 vehicle

More repair centres required – 4 not enough – 34 in Germany

Long waiting time for acknowledgement of warranty claim being accepted

Long delays for repair in UK (over a year) – 3/5 months in Germany

Concerns about who provides the warranty for the repair – VW or bodyshop?

No proper extended VW warranty available, only insurance based

Dealerships and VWCS to be brought up to speed on the current procedure and situation with repairs

FRONT PANEL

Forum members unhappy about UK 6 year cut off – Germany warranty from 2006?

Previously repaired vehicles (just resprayed, not replaced) if now older than six years and corrosion reoccurs

What does the repair procedure consist of?

Modified build date (March 2013)

Parts delay

ELEVATING ROOF

Forum members unhappy about UK 6 year cut off – Germany warranty from 2006?

New vehicles still being delivered with corrosion

Part number of replacement seal the same – does not provide remedy.

Is it part of the repair procedure for the seal to be stuck on? If yes, is the seal being stuck on production vehicles? Why no new part?

What does the repair procedure consist of?

Who provides the warranty for the repair – VW or bodyshop?

If a vehicle is repaired at 5 years 11 months, is it under warranty until the vehicle is 6 years old, or 3 years from the repair date?

RE-OCCURING FAULTS

1. CONTROL UNIT -

Known defective item

LCD screen malfunctions (goes into lines)

Knob spline breaks

VW cost of replacement £600-£700

Replacement should be covered for six years under Sale of Goods Act 1979

Cali forum members have made replacement knobs in Germany and UK for €16-€18. Why can’t VW produce a replacement knob? Ideally that can be replaced without taking the unit to pieces.

2. AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT

Wiring beneath passenger seat fails because of constant swivelling of seat

3. MAIN BATTERY GOES FLAT DURING EVENING IF WILD CAMPING – can’t use stereo or electric sliding door – not fit for purpose

4. ELECTRIC SLIDING DOOR – failure to close

OTHER PROBLEMS

Sink doesn’t drain without modification

Fragile window blinds

Exploding fridge glass – one at 6am when children asleep in bed next to fridge

Floors you can’t clean

EGR valves – 180bhp

Roof shutters that constantly creep open

Steering column clonks

Starting to look very much like a 3 year and sell it type vehicle. :headbang

Had an Audi once and never again (VAG :censor )

Thanks for the time and effort you have put in with VW. Its very much appreciated from a future Cali owner.

Thank you for your time and effort taken to do this for the forum, we ourselves very much appreciate this, and already looking forward to hearing VW's responses. :thanks
Lesley

We would certianly be scared having ours passed 3 years :?

Good evening. Thank you so much for your time and effort. Looking forward to hear what VW have to say on several unresolved issues.
Thanks again, Gary :goodone

:goodone Thanks for your hard work... It is much appreciated.... Like Mark, would be good to see the questions!

Best wishes

Pretty much like everyone else, just wanted to add our thanks.

You will have taken time out of work or busy days to travel and attend this meeting, so it's much appreciated.

For those of you making the most of possibly the final decent weekend of mild weather before the clocks go back next week (or is it forward, I dunno!), enjoy! We are just hoping that our control panel works this time, so that we can close the roof before we leave the site we are staying at ... and that the roof hatch stays closed on the journey there, and journey home ...
;)

I've just read the list of faults and problems. We have been considering a Cali. Methinks we shall wait until the Marco Polo hits our shores.
As discussed, unacceptable for a £50k plus vehicle !!!!!
