Michelin Crossclimate 2 235/55R17 103Y XL - best prices

Many including @WelshGas like these Michelin Crossclimate tyres, and, with 26k miles on my OEM Bridgstone tyres and the front wheel edges a little worn, I decided to price check replacements for 4 of them (accepting that these have directional tread, so I need to keep my spare Bridgestone spare and use only in emergency and temporarily).

I got a fully fitted including VAT prices as follows:

ASDA £714.64
Black Circles £690.08

I then contacted my local VW dealer, a little tongue in cheek, and directed them to:

Which includes the statement:

“We promise to match any like-for-like written quote for service, maintenance, repair or new tyres using Volkswagen Genuine Parts from any garage within 5 miles”

and asked them if that link holds true. To which they replied "Unfortunately tyres are not a genuine part therefore this would not be applicable. Our tyres are supplied by verified and approved sources and not from Volkswagen themselves."

My VW dealer did however offer to reduce their original quote including fitting and VAT of £952 to £823.20.

But I am puzzled why VW would include tyres on their website promise if none at VW dealers are 'genuine parts'.

Any thoughts?

Black Circles have a code SAVE15 so £618.50 for 4 tyres inc fitting with valves and balancing.

I had 2 fitted last week and couldn’t find cheaper than BC.

My Experience is that VW franchised dealers DO NOT price match like for like OEM parts and Labour.

IMO. The Price promise is a Marketing Ploy by VW U.K. to reassure the unsuspecting Customer , ( who think of "VW" are offering a price match) the price they quote must be competitive right ?

Wrong in most every instance, IMO. Just another layer of marketing from VW U.K.

If you think about it why would a Franchised Dealer, (who pay Exorbitant amounts to VW to adopt VW systems, VW marketing, Vw parts supply, Labour rates etc) even attempt to Match a non Franchised supplier!
It's not a VW price match it's the Franchisee, who get punished for VW marketing if they try to price match !

£175 99 per tyre . 4 = £703.60

15% of 4 tyres means £598.06 fitted using code PGB15

CostCo have deals on Michelin occasionally. It usually cycles through Continental, Bridgestone, Michelin. Michelin deal was last live in November 2024.

For fun I checked my German favourite tire store: it would be 570 pounds or so fitted.

I Bought 4 from "Tyre Pros" , Got a quote from a local Branch, looked online at the National Website and got a Better deal by 10% !
cross climate 2 103v a full set currently : (today) £743 fitted



Edit: Mitchelin tyres are regularly on offer via Promo, if purchasing two or more (Criss climates should be replaced in pairs so it's a no brainier if a sale is on )

Thank you all for your feedback.

In the end I ordered, from Black Circles, 4 Michelin Crossclimate 2 235/55R17 103Y XL after applying a 15% discount code SAVE15 (thank you @Justinitus ) these came to £618.60 fully fitted fitted (including valves, balancing and tyre disposal) and including VAT. I was able to select 'premier' fitter very nearby as well.

I called the fitter to check if he could match that price for a direct sale, in case that helped him, but he could not: with his supplier coming out at the Black Circle undiscounted price of just over £700. The fitter told me Black Circles are owned by Michelin hence their ability to discount further.

It is not clear how long the SAVE15 discount will last, perhaps it is stopped once a specific level of sales are achieved, alternatively perhaps it will be increased next, who knows!
