Hi all. My first post, please be gentle. Quick background - turn 50 next year, fortunate to have some spare money and after some umming and aahing, decided you can't take it with you (and there is only me and the missus, no sprogs). Love a good festival and getting out of London, and hope to have this a long time and make more use of it including European jaunts. The VW Cali meets the parking regs size wise where I live, and at the end of the day it is a (slowly depreciating) asset, not completely dead money. Read up on lots of ex-demo/nearly new conversions but new I would always regret not spending that bit more for the real deal. And 4Motion appealed even though the worst it will see is muddy field (and I know the tyres are the most important thing).

I nearly got put off as insurance on the raod in east London with no dedicated NCB is decidely punchy. But after a rush of blood to the head - subject to payment of the balance I pick up a very low mileage (7500) 2015 with Nav/DAB, Safety Pack, Xenons, bike rack, Clmatronic etc example on Saturday. Aftermarket Bluechip warranty on the mechanicals. There is a very small bellows tear (prior to a bellows bungie going on) to fix with Tear- Aid (or possibly repair with a VW warranty reference the prior owner had, but not counting on that); the parcel shelf bed cushion is missing, so will get the Comfortz Leisure 1" mattress; no visible roof corrosion, but well within warranty period if any issues; roof ties missing - I guess I should get them...

The dealer is not a Camper specialist (the dealership owner loves them/uses them, but wasn't there today) so if anyone is near E7 and wants to give me a proper walk through for a bottle of wine, or pint or two, please let me know! Otherwise, Youtube and the manual is my friend. I did have one silly question - what is the attached pic - BUT as I typed this up I have googled and found out it!! A bike clamp.

Anyway cheerio for now. Expect to join VIP and pop up with questions soon!

Welcome.....some van pics are a must.

Re the pic.....looks a bit like a clamp from a bike carrier.

Oops.....just read you message properly and you already know that. :talktothehand

Thanks Jason. Pics will follow when I have it. Thinking I should get a visible deterrent eg wheel clamp or steering lock given will be parked on road in East London.

Don't think it matters - but does anyone know if I can change my profile name to not my full name? Can't seem to find a way in the edit Profile section.

Yes you can just say what to and hopefully one of the moderators will oblige.

Not something you can do.

Welcome allong !

Hi Jaunty, a big welcome, looking forward to the van pics and don't be afraid to ask if you don't know. Lots of details to absorb and lots of experience to pick up on here.

Thank you very much! Nearly decided to wait until the New Year but it was a good spec 4Motion not a million miles off the We Buy Any Car price which I don't think allows for the numerous options it had. Fingers crossed its a good one.

(PS the last round of price increases and delays in new models have clealry helped residuals id used Calis. I expect I coudl have biught the same Cali a year ago (ie a year younger) for the same money0

Hi and welcome, definitely consider a spare tyre lock as well if the tyre is under the vehicle

Thanks Carl and great to speak to you and learn the history. The dealer must have damaged the bellows not operating it correctly. Only tiny and have a tear aid.

Bought and fitted! Thanks. (Took me a few minutes scrabbling with my few tools to realise the socket wrench in the toolkit was all I needed to fit it!).
