New T6.1 order delays

If we end up with 10% duty under WTO rules that shouldn't put 10% on the retail price. The importer (VW UK) pays the duty based on their purchase price of the vehicle when it arrives in the UK. What do you reckon Germany charge the UK for a vehicle? It'll be 10% of that
Ahh I see thank you, I was assuming the purchaser pays the 10% of the total retail price !
So I assume once VW UK pays the duty they will then pass that cost onto the retailer.
Okay so it will be less than what I was thinking of ie. £5k but still must be a good several thousand.

Yipeee, VW chat update this morning. My Cali (Week 41) is enroute.

Morak09:49 AM
Thanks for your patience, Michael. I am happy to tell you that your California Ocean is now at the Port of Exit. It has been released for shipping but not yet on the ship.

VW chat also confirmed today that my week 42 build has now left the factory and headed towards the Port of Exit. So by my reckoning, with the range of timescales that they've given for subsequent stages I should be able to collect it in the next 3-4 weeks :)

I’m not sure if VW chat have much more granular visibility than the build week, so that’s maybe why they’ve said 12th to you as that was the start of the week. Last Friday they were only able to tell me that it was scheduled for build that week so should have been in production.

I expect when they roll off the end of the line the tracking becomes more visible as VW themselves will need to monitor progress as it’s handled by external shippers, etc.

If you’re the same build week then I expect yours will be on its way to the port in the next few days too!

Informed by VW chat today that there is no build date for my order, and unlikely to be one this year as the factory is at capacity until week 52. Indicated an early 2021 production slot with the 204ps engine, which replaced the RDE1 199ps engine, with delivery March/April. Contacted my dealer who wasn't aware of this and is awaiting a response from dealer support.

Just found out we have a Build Week 11 for our Coast ordered 30/9
So we will definitely not be getting this year which is okay other than the 10% duty!:headbang
Wow. Week 11!??? That’s not great, definitely not if you really wanted one as quick as poss. I know you don’t, we are in the same position as you. Again like you, only worry is the 10% tax....

Hi Phil - what build week are you for next year?

Have you had confirmation that your build date is next year Phil ?

Jenny/MrShaz - no, not been given a build date yet. Keep trying the chat every other day. They must be getting fed up of me by now, but I’m not too worried about that - I think I have a right to know!!
I’m losing hope of it being this year now though.

We were originally told 17 weeks - which worked out to week 9 2021 having ordered 17th September but looks like that at least in our case that was very pessimistic. It took us a month from order to getting a confirmed build date. It will be 3 months total elapsed by the time we get our hands on it by the look of it.

So fingers crossed you’ll come forwards quite a lot.

Thanks. Ours is a 199 order, is yours?

How many sleeps? Very, very exciting. All this nonsense of constantly chasing VW for "where is my van?" will be instantly forgotten when your lovely van has arrived. After just 3 months we really love our "Billy Ocean".

If you are in Wendover (I am in St Albans), maybe we should arrange a (socially distanced) coffee meet up at Dunstable Downs? How many Calis could we get lined up on a Sunday morning???
I’m up for this, but a provisional week 47 build whose home will be in Digswell.

Finally got VW Chat to admit mine will now be a 2021 build date. Not 100% happy but at least I know. "Rob" on the chat was the most helpful I've dealt with. He even went away and called his "Order Specialist Team" to see what their projection was, which was next year. He also confirmed that the factory build allocation is full for this year.

So…there are advantages and disadvantages. We don't need to change vehicle until April when the company car goes back, the engine will be the latest in regard to emissions, it'll be a 21 plate (no big deal), but there's the Brexit tax to worry about. Now if that gets sorted I'll be very happy as there'll not really be any negatives, unless the 204 is worse on performance and economy...

I follow it closely and get regular updates, the only obstacle is Macron and his 14000 fishermen demanding our fish. Boris's speech last week 'prepare for a no deal and Lord Frost saying bye, bye got the EU on the back foot with their postering, hence Barniers proclamation to work on a deal. We will see the ball is firmly in the EU's court and their car industry is flapping.

Thanks for your positivity Wogga, I needed that

Personally I see things the reverse way, with Boris and his cronies having realised the ball is in the UK's court, and having no option but to accept the EU's offer to get back to the table. But, overall, the result is the same. Neither side is stupid enough to let a no deal happen. (I hope / think).

Interesting conversation with my dealership today. They have been maxed out with California orders recently (70 in the last quarter I think he said). I guess other dealers have the same experience so it’s no wonder that there are order delays. He did say that the California production line has been working flat out to fulfil orders and has been prioritising the U.K. (as we’ve all suspected).
So here’s my take on things. Dealerships will not worry at all if an order gets cancelled. If a cancelled order comes into dealership stock they will be able to sell it but will be under no pressure to offer significant discounts. There’s a potential price rise in November (unconfirmed). My vans already built and at the port so I don’t have the Brexit Duty dilemma but if I had a pending order I think I’d hang on in there. An import duty in 2021 (unlikely in my opinion) might be less expensive than cancelling and subsequently reordering!?

When alll is revealed I will let you know. Fingers crossed for you chaps.

True true ... I don’t think my life would have meaning if I cancelled now anyway, too much emotional investment

On a vaguely related topic, I was driving out of Slough a few days back, and there was a motorhome in someone's drive with a sign in the windscreen saying "NOT FOR SALE". I guess they got fed up with people knocking on the door to ask.

We ordered Ocean 6.1 four motion in July from Trafford Manchester and have been watching this thread with interest and thought we would not get ours until after Christmas. But after many calls emails asking for updates finally we were given the good news today that it will be at the dealership next week and we can pick it up at the weekend. Came close to cancelling the order but thankfully we did not!

I’d be happy take 3 months from my Oct order, but it’s looking like 6!
It’s all behind you. - now to enjoy it
