Hi,
Having the same VED discussion with local dealer in Inverness. We haven’t ordered yet but queried the VED confusion with them and they are none the wiser.
What documentation convinced them?
I assume the reclassification is not a commercial vehicle with the corresponding speed restrictions

"M1SA vehicles are defined as motor caravans in Part A of Annexe 11 to Directive 2007/46/EC. The minimum requirement is that a motor caravan includes seats and a table, sleeping accommodation: and cooking and storage facilities"
"The change in the law will apply from 12 March 2020"
"Paragraph 1GA, Schedule 1 to VERA will be amended to exclude vehicles which are M1SA type-approved, as defined in Pt5.1 of Annex 11 to Directive 2007/46/EC"
The above new rules are specific about the definition of a motor caravan M1SA and refer to the relevant Directive 2007/46/ED, a link to which is attached below. Under the definition included in the Directive it is clear that the California Ocean complies with this definition and can therefore be registered as a motor caravan M1SA.

Lovely van. The chrome running bars look great. Just looked on Google and they seem easy to fit. Did you fit yourself and if so degree of difficulty ? Enjoy; very jealous as I wait for any sign of progress !

@subthree and @Rowls1958 thank you for your feedback on the disappointing experiences you’ve both had with this dealer. @Rowls1958, I’m glad your new Cali has now arrived, the Images look fantastic, I love the colour and those wheels, just wow! I didn’t see running bars as an option; can I assume this is a dealer accessory fit?
The VW side bars dealer fitted are just under £500 !!!! I did some research and found these, identical and stainless steel, supplied and fitted for £180 by a VW specialist in Bristol. They do look easy enough to fit though but at that price couldn't be bothered.....

Hi, we ordered our T6.1 Beach in October 2019 and it was finally delivered in June 2020, so that was 8 months. We were initially told 6 months and then had a 2 month delay from the virus (when the factory shut and everyone was put on stay home lockdown).
We're in Switzerland and our dealer actually said at one point that VW Germany don't care about us in Switzerland and won't tell us anything. That said, he would contact them any get some sort of revised status periodically.
Presumably the Coronavirus will have impact for time to come as parts and materials backlogs will need to clear. We ordered seat covers too that were 12 weeks to make (!! But they're infinitly configurable) and they've had delays because they couldn't get white fabric to print on! I wish we'd ordered them sooner so we could have protection on the seats for the summer camping.
I agree though, it's mind boggling that orders for something this valuble in 2020 are thrown in a system and delivery is blindly awaited. It was the same with the Mini we ordered 4 years ago. The Citigo we got from Skoda in 2013 was exactly as you would expect, the order was placed and immediately the parts delivery and detailed production plan current status and forecast activity could all be seen at any time by the dealer... If Skoda manage it, VW should be doing it.
I spent the time planning and thinking about what we need to have to make camping with the kids easy. Also we practiced recipes from a brilliant camping cookbook (as delicious weekly meals) so we were ready to go when it arrived. All you can do is chill out though and plan as if you don't have it until it arrives. Once it comes you'll just enjoy time in it and the wait will be forgotten.

Hi just a quick one, did Marshalls advise you before you went there that there was an Ocean that could be inspected ? I'm pretty sure they were using my van as a 'demonstrator' as they didn't have any others in stock......

No, we guessed it was a collection and had a walk round the outside of it but didn’t have a closer look until you wandered over and showed us inside. No one from Marshall’s involved at all.
We had gone to have a poke about in the green Coast but were twiddling our thumbs as another couple were in it.

Anyone know which port VW would use for Cali's bound for Liverpool. Would it still be Sheerness (Kent) or another port closer?? Most if not all ships for VW seem to leave from Emden.

So this weeks adventures of my Week 29 Ocean. Last update was it was held up in the Holiday break but on stage 5 of 9 in Production. First call to the Live team said it was status code 20 and would be started soon. Say what ? Told them the above and then they re-checked and came back and said they've ran out of parts and there'll be a delay on the production. I've to call back in a couple of weeks to see if its shifted. Was obviously lovely to the Chat lady as its not their fault, but if I were them I'd be screaming at my management for having to feed manure to people who are paying big money to their company !

Same here. Just ordered from Liverpool as Marshalls insisted that the VED was £2175. I cannot recommend Liverpool highly enough. And they will deliver to us in Surrey.

Marshalls in Reading were not sorted as of Thursday last week and insisted the VED was £2175.
So I contacted Liverpool VC who confirms that the VED situation is clear at £270 and so I ordered a Cali from Liverpool. They gave a good discount and agreed to deliver to us in Surrey.
