Hello,
Tomorrow is going to be our first night out.
It is pretty windy, I live in Brittany.
What is the best van position towards the wind and could the roof be damaged if opened?
Thank you.

If you use the search function (eg put in "roof" and "windy") you will find a number of (long) threads on this subject. I'd suggest you go and read those.

However the short answers are (1) the ideal position is with the rear of the van into the wind; and (2) no, it's extremely unlikely that the wind will damage your roof.

Enjoy your first night camping.

Thank you.
I did search with roof and wind, but could not find an as straightforward answer as yours...

Yes you want the area with the least resistance towards the wind. Suggest to also get some elastic ties around the roof Material , bungee cord , so if you close it whilst it’s windy the material will fold in and not get caught as the roof closes .
I had some windy nights in North Norway although never a problem . However if it is extremely windy though , for example the van is rocking with the wind , then I don’t put the roof up , no point in taking chances to test it .
