Packing in the Beach

Yes, it can be done, but only if you pack fairly minimally. When we are away we usually take a double stove and a BBQ, 2 gas cylinders, chairs for the boys, often a 2nd table, hiking boots, a driveaway awning and all sorts of other guff.

To fit it all in we position the 3 seat bench on the rails in the correct position to make the bed. Therefore to lower the bed we need to remove stuff from behind it first.

To make this easier we have a number of plywood crates that slot in precisely behind the bench seats with only two shallow ones that need removal before lowering the bed. Folding the bed forward would take away that need completely.
I see - that makes sense. A lot of my kit is compact / lightweight, as I also use it on the motorbike, and I tend to pack fairly light.

Cooking gear, food box, fridge, camping necessities, leveling blocks and packing cubes for clothes in the slide out drawer. Awning, camping chairs, bedding and self inflating double mattress on the top. Rear seats fold down forwards to form end of the bed. Portapotti behind the passenger seat for my kids. Still refining but has been working great for my family of 4.

Hi, I like the look of your boot set up. What do you use behind the multiflex board to support the mattress? Also, did you build the shoe storage next to the sliding door? Looks like a great use of wasted space! Thanks.

Hi Roquito,

In this setup I’ve removed the multiflex completely and replaced it with the wooden frame and sliding drawer. That’s about 1.2m long and then I fold the front seats forward flat and put a mattress over the top. You can see the details if you check my posts.

And yes I built the shoe storage, it’s also a charging place for all those little devices we all bring along. Very handy!

Hello,
What do you have above the back portion of your pull out shelf - behind where the multiflex board goes please? (Presumably you have something so that that the mattress can rest on this? Thank you so much!

Oh no sorry, I posted twice! Can't work out how to delete the second post! Thank you for your reply!

Thank you for this - it looks like just what I want to build for our new Beach! Do you happen to have any of the dimensions of what you built - the frame and the shoe storage (we already have a sliding drawer, though only half as deep as yours). I can't search your other posts to have a look for some reason. Thank you so much for your help! We're really excited about this!

Dimensions of the rear were 120cm deep by 120cm wide by 54cm high to match the height of the rear seats when folded forward.
Shoe storage I’ll have to measure up for you as I kind of threw that together and modified it as I went.
