Programmable feature with Carista?

Carista has now invited me to participate in the beta test. I'll have a play this evening.

Uwe - did you experience any unexpected behaviour when testing it? Since it is beta and unsupported I do have a slight concern that some of their codes may be incorrect and some customisations may be incorrect. Not a problem if something just doesn't work but could be if it changes something else and then its not possible to set it back again.
That's a possibility with Beta Software.

Feeling very short-changed by Carista. I paid for the adapter. I paid for the pro version. Now I find that the Beta does not give any more features on the T6 than I had previously (Instruments only). And to add insult to injury they have removed the perpetual licence and now want to charge a subscription of £29.99 per annum to have access to the Pro features I've already paid for.

Anyone want to buy a Carista adapter?

That's bait and switch surely and illegal?

I'm sure they will update the features in time but I can understand feeling somewhat cheated.

Check either the app store or the play store there is more than one software vendor available. All need the OBD2 dongle. It might get you further but since its a new vehicle you may have to wait unfortunately.

Ignore me, it clearly states on their website that other products can clear and report diagnostics . It would seem that Carista is the only one that provides any kind of customisation as described in this thread.
I'll get my coat ! ;-)

The delay in compatibility with the vehicle I can just about live with. The move from Perpetual licensing to an annual subscription costing twice as much per annum is more than I can stomach.

Is that per annum charge for all versions? On Play store it still says perpetual licence?

Where did you get this information regarding the increase in charges because I've checked their site and the App Store and I cannot find any information regarding a price increase or any change to the licence. The In-App purchase price is unchanged.

Carista has given me access to their beta release because the general release app is largely incompatible with the T6. When I try to save any customisation I am first required to subscribe - either for a day at £4.99 or for a year at £29.99.

The version on the App Store is still based upon a perpetual licence.

Those of you T5 users who are happy with your current experience should be very cautious about upgrading!

Mind you Carista said they have no plans to release an upgrade any time soon so you don't have anything to worry about yet.

If you are a T6 user then don't bother with Carista for customisations yet and beware of the subscription charges in the future.

I mailed Carista due to the behavior of the new beta. Lots of more features but using them you have to pay.

Answer from Carista: you paid for the old features and can use them as long as you like. New features only with the new pricing model.

I wrote them that they get no more Euro from my side and that I am going to buy VCDS instead.

They tried to convince me that Carista is cheaper in the end ....

But I miss something very important - TRUST in this company

They loose a customer, definitely.

Cheers

Uwe, I've also been in dialogue with Carista this week. They assured me that since I have already paid for the Pro version I will continue to get error codes and customisations At no additional cost when they release the beta as general availability. We will only have to pay for 'additional' features' - whatever that is. We'll see.

In the meantime, are you able to post a list of the customisations that you are seeing with the beta. I am getting exactly the same features as with the App Store version.

Thanks,
Dave.

Same for me. List is longer, but not changeable until pay the additional fee.

Cheers

I bought an ELM327 v1.5 Bluetooth dongle via Amazon & tried it with Carista App on my Samsung S4-mini phone in our T5 Cali.
Carista says the dongle is defective...
The supplier says he will refund all my money (but may take 1-2 weeks...).

So now I wonder if I should try another generic dongle or lash out on a Carista one.

Thoughts?

Any ideas which dongles do/don't work with Carista?

I just downloaded the carista app and it suggests the ELM wifi dongle as opposed to the bluetooth one.

I have the ELM wifi dongle I use with another app and it acts as a wifi hotspot that you connect to, then open the app.

Very disappointed. Carista has just released a final beta. It still offers very few customisations - only instruments - for the T6.

OK - Carista has finally admitted that it doesn't support the T6. Received from their technical support today:

Thank you for your interest in Carista. We do not support the Volkswagen T6 (2015 on) because it uses different electronics than the one from previous years. We are working on adding support, but we do not have any time-frames yet. Let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the info.
Used mine in anger on the Touran so not a total write off but no good for my yet to arrive T6 then

Hopefully sometime in the future. I suppose we will know when upgrades to the app are made.

Did Carista ever come up with the goods for the T6?

Emailed Carista today asking when app will be updated for T6. On the upside i got my money back with what it's saved me on my Touran.

Reply from Carista........

Hi, thanks for your purchase and your interest in Carista. Yes, we are currently beta-testing customizations for the T6 and we hope to have them release officially within the next few months. Are you interested in trying the beta?

Replied that I will.
