Random electrical gremlins…..

Hi , I’m away at the moment in the Cali and have noticed the central locking, locking itself when I leave the van for a few minutes (toilet breaks). It’s happened twice now and luckily had the keys with me. If it did it all the time I would think it’s normal but it happened twice over 3 days. These keys don’t have sensors in them or so like keys less cars do so just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Another weird thing happened on the way to our campsite too, I lost all touch controls of the VW factory radio. I couldn’t answer phone calls or change radio stations. My van has every warning light on the dash board there is at the moment (ACC, TPMS, ABS etc) which I’m assuming are linked to the ABS/wheels sensor which is getting looked at ASAP. Surely these gremlins can’t be related to all the warning lights on. I’m contemplating disconnecting the starter battery for half an hour to reset the whole electrical system .Thanks for any replies in advance

The van will re lock if the drivers door is not opened. After a few minutes
If the van is locking itself randomly (after the drivers door is opened) then there is an issue. Be aware people have been locked out of the van with keys inside the van. (Search posts to find threads )

Warning lights likely as per your diagnosis- disconnect and reconnect battery will not hurt and may sort the issue .

Loss of touch screen sensitivity- common issue that VW do not acknowledge, whilst in warranty VW will replace the whole unit , after which you are on you're own. - SatNav systems in Surbiton can replace the touch screen for you , they offer a postal service , there are DIY options available many many threads on the subject.

Enjoy the rest of your Holiday

Thanks Perfectos. Only the sliding door is getting used as I have the rainbow screen cover fitted. Not done it today and I’ve been out walking dogs etc loads of times and left the van unlocked . Radio working perfect now too. I’m in my 30 day probation period with my new All in Policy so once that’s ready for me to claim I will get it sorted if the problems persists (we will see how good or bad the all in policy is) . I’ve also been in and out of the boot a few times before going away from the van. I wonder or if that has anything to do with the self locking. I’ll have a play when at home on my driveway rather than looking silly in the campsite .

see how good or bad the all in policy is
All in policy is good & well worth the money.

Glad the gremlin's have gone away for the time being.

The touch screen is something that will become an issue and should be covered under all in. (It's a known issue. Albeit VW don't actually acknowledge it's an issue ) .

Here's a photo of the casualties waiting for screen repair at Sat Nav systems, I visited recently to have my wife's Media pro updated!
