2015 map updates for RNS510. Cost about £30.

LINK REMOVED

Easy upgrade. Official DVD. Takes about 1 hour. If unit switches off, just switch on and it carries on. DVD cannot be ejected by accident until update completed.
NB Map Data update only.

Not being judgey, but this will be an illegal copy.

The fully licensed copy will be nearer £200.

Just go into it with your eyes open, if you don't mind getting illegal copies then you can get it for free. But if £30 is worth it to you to save faffing around then fill your boots.

Just need to check your moral compass.

As Teeboy says this is 100% illegal ! if you want illegal copies they are available for free online.

Very difficult to see how VW etc can justify £200 for an update when you can buy a TomTom from Halfords, full Europe mapping, with free lifetime (four a year for the lifetime of the unit, whatever that is) updates for £80
Complete rip off as the data is still a year old so the maps are probably 18 months old at least. But I guess everyone's updates are never actually up to date anyway, just more up to date than the last release.
If they charged a reasonable price then not so many people would tempted to go for illegal copies.

As far as I am concerned whilst within the 3 year warranty period VW will update the software on the various computer modules free of charge. What is the Satnav but a specialised computer so as far as I am concerned all software and data updates should also be free during warranty.
I can assure you the company supplying the mapping data for this unit are not charging VW £200/DVD.
This company supplies "Backup" disks for the trade and customers, and now I have a certified backup for my Satnav map data. If VW wish to do something about it then they could, as could BMW, Audi etc. they haven't because it would expose their very questionable practices.
So, if you want the latest mapping data, follow the link, or pay VW £200.

Reading their T&C these are blatant fake/copies, also they have no phone number, no address and email goes to +++++ !!!

Sorry if you thought I was judging you. I happily download the dodgy copy of the map updates - and I can sleep at night.

However I was just pointing out that you are being charged £30 for a dodgy copy which is freely available with a bit of googling.

You logic around a backup copy of the software is not valid, as you are getting a later version of the software than provided on your hardware - so not a backup.

The 3 year warranty theory is also bogus.

Just deal with it you are buying stolen goods.

If you go to most VW meets you will also find people who will let you borrow a copy of their latest maps.

Of course if you update your RNS510 with any of these non-VW methods then you will have knackered your head unit.

So I presume you have a knackered RNS510 unit then.
Unfortunately I haven't.
Each to their own. Unfortunately I couldn't download a copy as I have no facility to burn a dual layer DVD.

I have only done one update and it worked OK. I figure once every other year is good enough - we did notice a few extra roads in Spain when we visited, but in the UK not much changes.

I struggled with dual layer DVD as well - but there is a method that allows you to copy the map data onto an SD card, then just burn a CD which boots the head unit into an update mode which copies the data from the SD card.

Surprised people openly talking about using counterfeit updates on an open forum that VW could be viewing

What would be really good is if someone could figure out a way to use OSM maps with the RNS.
Constantly updated and with loads more info on.
