How useful is that servo feature that helps you to lock the door tight?
I'm definitely not looking into electric door, but considering that servo feature.
Is it that problematic to close the doors manually?

Thought that was standard on the cali?
We have it on ours but we have the electric side door so it kind of negates it really.
I've found it pretty useless on the tailgate as unless you close it hard enough it doesn't operate anyway

I can't really see the point, I don't think it would be a great inconvenience not to have it.

Don't know on a Beach but on SE it is standaard , pretty useless imo.
Makes a lot noise at night leaving the Cali say for a sani-trip to the loo at campsite....waking up the neighbours

I tried it on a multivan, I needed to push the door quite hard for it to activate anyway so I dont see the point actually.

Its standard on the Cali SE and I think its great, just means the door 'Always' closes properly ..

Yes it is standard on SE. And asking not if I want to wreck it out. Obviously asking about a version where it is not standard and if it is worth the money.

Save your money, we can all shut a door properly by ourselves I'm sure. It also has the occasional glitch and stops working until you turn ignition on and off (I think). As others have said it can be a little noisy in the middle of the night.

Great info. Thank you!

Imo it makes shutting the sliding side door / tailgate quieter then having to give them a good slam.

The other problem I used to have on the Kombi without the soft close is when trying to close the sliding door quietlly in the middle of the night is not getting it right the on the first attempt and having to have a second harder attempt to make sure!

To latch the sliding door quietly after getting out, you can slide it closed gently and then just push the trailing edge inwards gently until the electric latch takes over. But getting back in I still do not have a solution to closing it quietly – perhaps one needs a strap on the inside to pull the rear edge in.

The noise of the servo closure is a lot louder inside the California than it is outside. Has anyone ever had a neighbour complain?
You are more likely to hear the neighbours dog/children/television than they are to hear the servo lock the door.:thumb

So the concern is about servo sound, right? Not some weird loud beeping. Isn't closing the sliding door itself louder? If you push it hard enough to close.

Are you talking about the Electric Sliding Door, which electrically slides the door shut and gives a constant beeping noise as it does so, or the Servo whine which pulls the rear door into engagement. There is no beep when this happens.

It's not a big concern atall.
If I had to choose to have it or not, then I would
It is just my middle of the night little trip, I like to be as quiet as pos
In the summer, I just put the door on the first click as long as security is not needed

I think it's have decent to be honest. It means my 10yr old can shut the sliding door without trying to slam it and I know it's shut.
Just my offering.

I've had my SE for three years and never given this a moments thought. It's certainly a lot more discreet than manually closing the door on my previous van, and has never gone wrong.

They work well I think. Allows gentle closing of the rear door and sliding door with a little push until the thing grabs it. It does reduce those mega slams people tend to try with Cali doors... Really don't like these esp with the bike rack.
Having been a tent camper I think it's good if you to be thoughtful about mechanical noises on campsites at night...I've wondered about both the heater 'roar' and the door servos too.
On balance agree with others that the servo whirr is prob better than a mega slam.
