Side Mirror Loose

Hi All,
Today I was stuck at some road works when I decided to clean the drivers side mirror. Reaching out to clean the mirror I started to clean it with a cloth when the mirror came away from its backing. Luckily I stopped it from falling to the ground.
Question is what is it normally held to its backing with?
What should I use to fix it back on?

I think it's just a double sided tape.

Yes, as above - double sided tape - maybe a few small (ie 5 x pea - and we're talking petit pois not 'Garden') dabs of polyurethane adhesive would be a better idea. This is good stuff I have used for various jobs incl solar panels:

I used interior mirror double sided tape or number plate d/s tape
