Hi all,

I would like to buy snow chains for our t6.1 2WD. A local shop is selling the Pewag Servo 9 at a good price. They fit my tyres. The local "specialist" is recommanding these chains for our van. But I'am wondering of the Cali isn't to heavy for these type of chains. Does anyone has the answer? Did some research on the forum but I did not find any information regarding these chains.

Many thanks!

Some good information on this website:
The Pewag Servo 9 is identified as being suitable for VW T6.

Can I ask what tyre size you are running and you want to fit this chains on? Thx!

I noted that in the description it is mentionned that these chains are not suitable for SUV, but at the same time recommended for T6?

Did some reading this weekend. VW wrote in the manual: chains can be 15mm. Only 205 65 16, 215 65 16 and 215 60 17 tyres can have chains. Our Cali has 215 65 16. I was looking at these chains:

They are 17mm.

Will it work with my 215 65 16? Am I wrong in thinking that the space for the chains is bigger with 16 inch vs 17 inch (even with the 65 on my 16 inch vs. the 60 on the 17 inch). And that VW wrote 15mm for the biggest tyres?

The overall diameter of these two tires is nearly identical. The larger 17" rim is compensated by a lower sidewall on the tire. That's why this 17" tire, which is identical in width (215) to the 16" tire, has a lower side profile index (60 instead of 65). The side profile index is not a fixed quantity, it is a ratio of tire width to sidewall height. This is also why the 235 55 17 tire, which has the same diameter and sidewall height as the 215 60 17, has a lower sidewall index (55): the same sidewall height is a lower ratio to the wider tire.

I would follow VW's recommendation, since the space is virtually the same for both tire/rim combinations.

The issue with clearance is on the inside between the tyre and the strut, nothing to do with the sidewall height. It’s the width of the tyre that limits, so 215mm ok with the OEM standard offset wheel, 235 or wider has reduced clearance thus not recommended by the manufacturer. You can get chains that don’t impinge the inside of the wheel ie. spikes spider or Konig summit - both of which work well and are easier to fit but expensive - which can be fitted to the wider tyres.
