Is that permitted as their one form of daily exercise?I imagine the restrictions will have quite an impact on the dogging community!
How do you arrange insurance? Do you insure them individually or collectively? To date

A strange one really as no VED or MOT required but then to use a Public Highway Insurance required, but if no Insurance then no road use (if a law abiding owner). Think I'm going in circles now....Are you sure that's correct VD? I've always thought that you had to sorn whether VED was payable or not. I have a 1909 Renault that's been awaiting a mechanical restoration for about five years. I SORNed it when I took it off the road and nothing was said then.
So long as it is not conducted in groups of more than two.Is that permitted as their one form of daily exercise?

You must inform your Insurance company. The first year VED includes Registration and Luxury vehicle, over £40,000 , tax. You will only get back whole months of VED, so how much that is I have no idea.Hello folks...
havent been on here for a few days, in light of the climate, but have just noticed others discussing sorning their Calis' and thinking about doing it too. So our Cali was collected new, from dealer 10 days ago on 19th March. If i contact DVLA today to request SORN, does that mean i will be refunded 11 months of the first year's VED? I would choose just to put the tax on hold if this is possible and not sure what the implications are for insurance. Aware that it is the last day of the month, so should decide and act today, but can anyone advise what will happen? it doesnt seem likely that there will be person on the end of the phone at the DVLA to chat about this with, and should I also advise my insurance company and what view will they take? being that my tax commenced 2/3 way through the month how will this affect me? just not sure how to proceed. any help appreciated.

As far as insurance, some allow some void cover and some change to a different kind of policy.
technically taking out for a run isn't classed as essential travel so might run foul of any Police enforcement, as you say.thanks. Its looking like it could be quite a long time out of use, and seems likely to be stopped if i take it out for a run on the M5? will others be taking theirs out for a drive to maintain? I have not even got a elec charge cable and will need to order on quick to plug in every few weeks if not in use. I had planned to visit the shop in Bolsover, but will order on line.
Thinking of sorning mine today. It was new in September 2019. LV said yesterday that there is no change to the cover whether sorned or not but said I could reduce mileage etc if I wanted to. Not sure how much the retaxing will be when the time comes.
I have just applied the sorn to my new cali (sob) and also advised insurance provider who say they will not insure when sorn applied. they have put a hold on insurance tho and I can reinstate when needed, and they say will refund days not in use (providing the total period of non use is more than 28 days) no charges for doing this, so seems fair. Cali is parked on private road in our small parking space/drive area so trust it will not be damaged or stolen.....I was in two minds whether to go ahead, due to the unknowns, but lets tempt providence and hope to reinstate before the summer gets here....
I know it’s your decision re insurance but that seems a very risky move. Especially with such a high value item.I have just applied the sorn to my new cali (sob) and also advised insurance provider who say they will not insure when sorn applied. they have put a hold on insurance tho and I can reinstate when needed, and they say will refund days not in use (providing the total period of non use is more than 28 days) no charges for doing this, so seems fair. Cancelling your VED is one thing but you MUST maintain your insurance. If they won't insure a SORNed vehicle then don't SORN it.I have just applied the sorn to my new cali (sob) and also advised insurance provider who say they will not insure when sorn applied. they have put a hold on insurance tho and I can reinstate when needed, and they say will refund days not in use (providing the total period of non use is more than 28 days) no charges for doing this, so seems fair. Who's "reliably informing" you of such plans?
Sorning is obviously down to personal views / circumstances. Ours was new last June, we’ve no intention of sorning it. As soon as the essential travel ban is eased and we are able to move albeit possibly within a defined local area we will out to give it a run. Whether that will be in 3 months or longer we are prepared to take the gamble.I have just applied the sorn to my new cali (sob) and also advised insurance provider who say they will not insure when sorn applied. they have put a hold on insurance tho and I can reinstate when needed, and they say will refund days not in use (providing the total period of non use is more than 28 days) no charges for doing this, so seems fair. I have also just been pondering this.
Taking our case as an example, we have a 2019 Cali Beach 150ps dsg which we collected in late October but taxed from Nov 1st. So if we were to SORN online today I should receive a cheque for seven months un-used VED. You do not get a refund for the whopping first year registration fee but you are refunded at the second year VED rate which is currently £145 + £320 = £465. Therefore our refund should be £465 ÷12 × 7 = £271.25p which works out at £38.75 pm. Now assuming the lock down lasts for three months, I would be saving £116.25 or would I?
As far as I have read, the Government's VED regime is changing as of tommorrow inline with the more realistic WTLP (at least I think that's what the abrieviation is) pollution testing method. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find out how the increase in VED will effect our vehicle. I know we will have to pay more to re -tax it when the time comes but how much is uncertain. In any case we would only be bringing forward the inevitable. So is my SORNing our vehicle worth it? I would be making a saving but not that much. The only major advantage that I can see is that I won't have to raid the piggy bank to pay the VED and Insurance at the same time when due.
Not sure if I can be bothered.
VW insurance services said they weren't interested and the insurance is unaffected.
If your vehicle is now uninsured then I would suggest not charging the Leisure Batteries, as VW advise, just in case the charger malfunctions, rare I know, and cause a fire..I have just applied the sorn to my new cali (sob) and also advised insurance provider who say they will not insure when sorn applied. they have put a hold on insurance tho and I can reinstate when needed, and they say will refund days not in use (providing the total period of non use is more than 28 days) no charges for doing this, so seems fair.
