Apologies if going over old ground with this one.
We have a 2010 California SE with 19000 miles on the engine....yes it's correct.
We have noticed an intermittent fault when starting the van when the engine is warm.
We can drive for an hour, stop, then try and restart but the van won't start...engine fault comes up on the display with red battery light and flashing glow plug symbol.

Currently trying the second garage ( St. Eves in Bicester ) and they are a bit stumped.
They have changed the crank sensor as this was a possible.

Has anyone had this issue and actually found what the problem was ?

Thanks
Clive

What did the scan say?

Following codes

P0016-00 CRANK AND CAM CORROLATION
03021.12 LOCAL DATA BUS 3 ELECTRICAL ERROR
plus a parking sensors issue.

So did the garage do a crank/cam re-learn? Did they check the 5v ref signal?

They have changed the camshaft and crank sensors.
I will ask about the crank/cam relearn and 5v ref signal and report back.

Did the codes clear and not come back after the sensors were changed?

The garage feels that after speaking to Autologic the opinion is the timing is out causing this issue , as it’s a correlation code.

They are thinking as the engine gets warm it puts the timing out of tolerance. They are going to check this next.

Follows with your opinion on the re-learn

Sounds plausible although it’s a new one on me.

TDi timing is a simple check with VCDS. It pulls up a very easy to read timing graph.

Basically the cursor needs to be as close to the blue line as possible.

Keep us posted.

Won't be getting this looked at until the New Year now but will update early January.
Van drives lovely as long as I don't turn the engine off!
