Stereo shut down when parked up?

So - I'm on my 2nd Cali which was purchased earlier this year. Very pleased bar the change to the stereo in park up. It doesn't play :headbang
My first Cali was fine playing parked up....it powered down every 1/2 hour but you could fire it back up by hitting the power button. My new one will not play unless the keys are in and daylight running lights are on - which obviously I don't want. VW say its the CAM bus management system that prevents the stereo working when parked up.
FFS It's a camper van :headbang :headbang :headbang

I think the problem is also the head unit.

Before I take it to a specialist car hifi dealer and spend time/money trying to resolve has anyone found a way to enable the stereo when parked up. E.g a lead to the leisure battery?

Incidentally, blue tooth speakers are clever but not really what I'm after....

Thanks in advance

There must be something wrong there even
With canbus it should still power up without the keys in
Granted it will turn off again after 20 mins or so

Agreed with Kev, none of my vans do this??

I have a 2 month old Cali and the stereo definitely works with the keys out of the ignition. It switches off every 30 min or so but can be turned on again just by pressing the on/off button.

As above that doesn't sound right but I've never looked back since I had ours wired to the leisure battery.
Only cost £100 and has put an end to having to turn it on every 30 mins which used to annoy me to hell.

Mmm, interesting, thanks for the responses.
How new are your cali's? The dealer tells me it's a change since Nov 2012?

Thus, older cali's as my previous one don't have this issue.

I have a variety of Transporters, including Cali's, kombis, Shuttles, Caravelles and panel vans from 2012-2013, and none of them have the issue you are talking about.

Mine was built to order, delivered Jun this year so is just over 2 months old and works as I described without the key.

The only thing I have omitted to mention is that I have an iPod doc fitted in the glove box. It charges the iPod and is wired directly into the head unit. It functions fine when driving, but when parked up freezes after a minute or so. The radio works parked up but not the CD player.

My previous van had the same iPod dock with no issues.

If I use the aux socket in the glove box it still freezes.

Ah, I thought you were just talking about the radio. I'm fairly sure my CD player works as well as I've watched a DVD on it but the van isn't with me just now so I can't check. I don't have the iPod dock though. The van is back this afternoon so I'll give it a go then.

Just checked on my van now it's back - the CD player definitely works with the ignition off and key out.

Pretty sure ours (Kenwood) only works with the keys in.

Beware using it too much as I killed our driving battery once; luckily it was easily bump started.

Cheers guys, plenty of evidence to take to the dealer on my return from France.

My Kenwood only works with the keys in. It's on my job list to sort, am going to be wiring it to the leisure battery.

Interestingly, if you leave the keys in but ignition fully off the head unit stays on indefinitely....
