T5 written off in a crash yesterday any tips on insurance etc

This is all well and good but In reality when you tell a future purchaser that the vehicle has been in an accident that cost £24k to repair ( which you are obligated to tell them) unless you are going to give a hefty discount you may well find it very difficult to sell.
Its a good job the repairer bought it off me in a private sale then, please do not question my morality or assume I mislead anyone or indeed intend to.

A vehicle is only considered a right of for insurance purposes when the cost to repair the vehicle to the pre accident condition exceeds it current market value.
The old way of calculating a write off by % of its pre accident / market value has long since been ditched by insurers.

Yes, I was thinking that too.
Written off at the scene? Very unusual. Who by? Usually you need to wait for an official kiss of doom from the assurance assessor but having said that I did once agree a write off over the phone after listing all the damage and discussing with insurers.

File of similar vehicles and prices is a must to help with negotiations. WBAC? I wouldnt personally. They offer a price to make them an easy profit.

Horrible situation for you; glad to hear you and your family are all ok. Some excellent advice on this thread - I would certainly Reccomended getting a reputable accident management company involved to take the stress away from you..

Get any receipts to prove added value they should take these into account don’t accept 1, 2 nd offer barter hard and get screenshots of similar vehicles for sale in Your area
Was in claims for a major insurer as the other party has admitted get them to provide similar Van untilsettled that usually kicks them to settle a bill will increase quickly.
I used to write off at roadside depending if over 3 years and airbags have deployed write off so very common as is damage driven. You can change mind until settled, or get buyback value.

So sorry to hear of your accident and glad you're all ok. Where abouts in Norfolk was this? I bet it was in North Norfolk around Holt area? There seem to be quite a lot around that area at the moment with biggest cause being big whites trying to get around the small lanes and meeting very large tractors head on!!!!

My son missed having a head on by a near squeak. He was near his home coming round a corner with high overgrown banks, poor visibility doing around 30mph when all of a sudden a VW T6 camper (not a Cali) came roaring round the corner (he reckons about 60mph) he hit his brakes and tried to quickly get into reverse but got neutral in his BMW 530d est and waited for the bang - the camper still kept coming with wheels locked up. Somehow the driver managed to pull it left and along the bank ending up around 4 car lengths behind my son in middle of road blocking it (shows the speed even when braking). It stopped just short of a builders van that was following my son. Chap got out un hurt and had his head in his hands - front of camper was mess with bumper and parts across road including nearside wheel and drive shaft!!! He reckoned he had wasp sting him...........................................thankfully my sons car was un touched and van behind was able to stop in time - van driver said the guy was driving recklessly!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all above who replied to this post back in August. I'm happy to say that we did reach a settlement with the insurance company. It took a while and wasn't;t pleasant. we are however looking for a new Cali. But the insurance money doesn't seem to stretch with latest bump in prices over the last 6 months. We are looking for an automatic T5 - T6 and preferably with a middle rail so if anyone know of one would be grateful if you can let me know.

Well that is good news but sad how long it has taken - take care when driving in Norfolk - there were big whites out today on A11 apparantly all over the place in Storm Eunace; police were talking to one driver - obviously it's half term here.

Good luck in your quest.........................I'm leaving it till price stabilise

Glad you got it sorted out and good luck with the hunt for a new van.

Can I ask who you were insured with and how would you rate them? Very interested as you only know how good they are when you have to claim off them!

Thanks,

Hi There,

We were insured with Admiral and I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN it has been dreadful and we had to get our family home from our holiday on our own and return to Norfolk again to collect the contents of our Van a few days later as they were going to take it away, we still haven't got costs and its been an extremely time consuming exercise

To be fair as far as I understand it Admiral are not a specific Campervan / Motorhome insurance company.

But the points made above would be covered by your travel insurance / breakdown cover surely? Not aware any car / campervan insurance would cover onward travel etc.? Am I wrong?
