Sorry to post on this topic again, but searching the posts I still don’t understand the servicing schedules with my T6.1 Cali.

I purchased it new November 2022 and the VW app displayed – “OIL Service” Nov 2024 (and some miles) Next “Service” Nov 2024.

Earlier this year I noticed that OIL service either Nov 24 or in 2,500 Miles…. Next Service Nov 24.

Last month, data in the app displaying “Oil Service in 500 miles”. So, I’ve just had the “Oil Service” today at 9,000 miles on the clock.

Now in the APP - Next Oil Service 730 Days or 9,300 Miles, Next Service 730 Days, 24,900 Miles. One dealer advised me that I should have an “Annual Inspection” after first service. This seems to contradict the data in the APP.

What is an “Oil Servce and what is a “Service” ?

Another dealer users the terminology “Interim Servce” and “Full service.”

Confused !

Further, looking at the handbook it states that an approved service dealer can see exactly what items are needed to be replaced/inspected and when. So, no transparency on when an air filter will be replaced. Even Gearbox oil may need to be inspected or replaced – by what means is this determined ? etc...

This means that no independent can know what needs to be replaced, and when !. For my other vehicles I can see service schedules and what will be replaced/inspected say, after 1 year, 2 years etc or after 10,000miles, 20,000 miles etc.

Do Cali owners have to continue with servicing only at VW Van Centres and trust the dealer to make sure that items are replaced/inspected by some dark art ?

My local, independent mechanic can see my van's service schedule, history and advise on what needs doing: brake fluid changed, pollen filter, etc.

You could go and talk to a local mechanic. I am sure they will be able to help you figure out what is needed / when

It looks like you are on the fixed service schedule. I was stuck on that for the first couple of oil changes because the dealer couldn't see it to be flexible. Now the van is on the flexible service schedule - approx 18km miles.

Looks like you are on the flexible high mileage service schedule which gives you up to 2 years or 18k miles between services but based on your usage its predicting that its reduced to 9300miles

Apologies, looks like I misunderstood / still misunderstand how the service schedule works

I think it's oil service and inspection service, as per usual VAG schedule.

I assume, you had oil service at 9000 miles because van decided you do a lot of shorter trips or oil deteriorated.

Looks like now, your van predicts oil service and inspection service in 730 days. I expect, brake fluid is due to be changed at 3 years and then every 2 years after that. That's usual VAG schedule.

To avoid confusion I just opt for the annual service / 10000 mile pathway. Keeps life simple! The van provides entirely consistent notifications. Since I don't look like managing 10000 miles its once a year (around this time - in fact just in being done now).

It is confusing @Wallaces Travels
I received a message from VW in August advising that an alert for my van had been received. No amber/red dashboard warning lights so I assumed the alert related to an oil change being due in 700 miles (message on dashboard). Called VW to book it in and was advised the service was not due until I’d done 36000 miles or December 2024 whichever came first. My van at the time had only done 24000 miles. Anyway, got this in writing from VW just in case there’s a future dispute.
VW said I could bring the van in to have the Service Indicator reset but I did it myself (with their knowledge) using my Carista dongle. Put an entry in my calendar to book it in come December.

When I purchased my T6 in 2017, it was sold to me with a 20,000 mile or 2 year Service interval (using VW long life oil) and a 4 service service plan, so good for 8 years......Nope......the first inspection at one year old changed the service interval to match the inspection interval, miraculously meaning that the big service (Cambelt, water pump etc) fell outside the service plan. DSG oil needs changing every 3 years (30000 miles) and this to is/was outside the scope of the service plan.
With the right diagnostic tool the service interval can be changed anyway.
I found a VW approved non franchised specialist and use them annually.

Personally I would always change the oil on a vehicle annually if you're planning to keep it in the long run. Modern oils are a far cry from lubricants of old, but modern engines are also precision things . . .
