Good morning
I just tried to book my T6 Beach in for a service with VW Hereford. They wanted £480 - due to the age of the vehicle it needs a pollen and oil filter change. I said I’d ’shop around’.
Please help with a few questions. Is this justifiable? What are the implications of going away from the main dealer? Can anyone recommend another service centre near Hereford / Abergavenny?
Thanks
Paddy

is it WAS (not WAG) an independant VW place near Worcester? i've not used them myself. but heard good things about them

I used VW Hereford for 10 yrs and 130,000 miles for servicing and I travelled from South Wales. That sounds about right for the Major Service, oil, all filters, full inspection, diagnostics and any software updates + 2 yrs warranty on parts and labour.
Of course you can go elsewhere but insist on genuine VW parts.
You'll save on labour , parts should be the same cost. You may not get any software updates due, you may not get your VW electronic Service record updated, unless the Independent has paid for access to the VW system and unlikely to get the 2 Yr warranty on parts and labour.

Listers Droitwich were £496 (all bar a few pennies) including MOT but excluding pollen filter

Thank you. That is good advice.
I’ve looked online and can book the same service with Hereford VW for £348 which I will probably go for.
The fact that they tried to overcharge me over the phone doesn’t sit well though.

Interesting that it is cheaper online - I wonder why?

Yes. Oil change, oil filter, pollen filter and inspection, which was what they quoted on the phone. I read elsewhere on the forum that this is common practice.
I’ll take the online booking and see what they say when I take it in.
please do report back :)

sorry I have had to correct my post above. it's WAS not WAG i was refferreing to

If you want to stay with VW (as I do), you will certainly do better booking online and/or paying monthly.

I booked mine in last week for end march Friday slot with VW. Full service, MOT and a courtesy van for the day. £510 all in. Not too bad I didn’t think.

I ended up getting a 2 year service deal for my oil and filter changes, my local VW wanted about 350 for an oil change only which was far more than buying two as a service package.
