The anti-c_19 thread

I remember cheap fuel, then my father's dismay at it breaching £1.00 per gallon. We always used to fill up on the way into Southampton at the same service station (it may have had Smurfs or Tigers, not sure) and when it hit £1 it was a big deal.

Who remembers having a paper round? Getting up at 5 am in all weathers and then delivering 60 papers every morning Monday to Saturday. I got £2.68 per week and felt rich, but knackered. Some days I'd get back home before my dad was up. A couple times I did the evening round but hated it as the dogs were awake. I also sub'd for the Sunday round occasionally but that required pit-stop back at the shop because the papers were so damned thick and heavy!

Spot the difference... shouldn’t take too long...

I saw the Ford and was struck temporarily blind.

Clearly "Port on the way Out and Starboard on the way Home"!!
Posh! :happy

You finally got a glass for that window?

Going bonkers here. Took four years to decide to invest in one of these Caractacus Potts Wonder-Vans and now its just an ornament. Well not tonight. I am going to damned well sleep in it!

The ‘official excuse‘ is that it is a back-to-back test between the expensive ‘comfort mattress it came with and the original VW effort. how else will we know? If it were not for that rather convenient, if a tad contrived, excuse I am not sure I could do it. I mean, camping on your front lawn... really? What are you? Six years old!!

No doubt there will be a sharp rap on the glass at three in the morning by the local constable enquiring “just what exactly are you doing sir? I do hope you are a key-worker or you may have to accompany me down the Station, sir? You are suspected of a serious breech of....”

Well, to hell with it.

My earliest truck driving experiences were in these:

And later on:

My only truck driving experience didn't involve driving a truck. Whilst shipping furniture to Greece in a 7.5 tonne box van (as a private individual) I had an enforced weekend stay in a Swiss truck park because the authorities wouldn't let me travel over the weekend. It was one of the most eye opening experiences of my life up till then. My van was sandwiched between two other Brits who had only two things on their mind, one being drinking. On Saturday night the booze ran out and one of the drivers (pretty drunk by then) asked me (still quite sober) to get more booze from a shop he knew about a mile away. When I told him I couldn't because my truck was blocked, he promptly offered his, a Volvo tractor unit putting up 470 hp. I told him that there was no way, but he insisted on demonstrating the capabilities of the Volvo round the truck park with me as a passenger (terrified). The situation was eventually resolved by a Spanish driver with a mobile phone (still a bit rare then) calling a taxi and taking a drinks order for most of the drivers!

Funny, the one poster that apparently comes on here to avoid C19 chat is the only person that mentions it tut tut.
ahhh those days when the difference in price between different petrol stations, it was shocking if one station charged 2 or 3 pence more than the next one, but that was for a gallon. It’s not unusual to see 10 or 15pence difference a litre now between stations.

I have to say that fuel has never been so cheap for my Cali

I’m now getting 4 weeks to the gallon out of Dylis.

Ha. I'm trying to burn fuel in my V8. Got annoyed that I nearly run out so filled it and then lockdown. I need to change the fuel tank strap and need a near-empty tank.

Morris Oxford - a diesel... never?
I can remember when petrol was 50 pence a gallon. Diesel was cheaper still because it was only used by Ford Transits and the odd Morris Oxford.

That photo is a fake.

Nothing with BMC on it ever existed without a leak.

You learn something useful every day! Thank you.
wish I had one now.
