The New T7 California can be ordered from today in Germany + configurator.

I reckon swansway B’ham will be one.
Or maybe Listers Droitwich.
I know Hereford Vertu is NOT one.
Liverpool has good reviews
I've bought vans from Liverpool and Droitwich. Droitwich still ring me up every so often, very good service. Liverpool always tend to be good value.

Does anybody know when the T7 might finally be launched in the UK? The website talks about end of summer 2024 but that's been and gone. I see a dealer mentioned orders opening October but that's about gone too and no sign of any potential orders opening? I wonder if anybody has any inside information.

Give Jamie or Tom a ring at Breeze VW Van Centre in Poole, I’m sure they’ll know when you can order. All I know is the diesel and petrol models are first, the PHEV Hybrid follows a bit later.

Tbf Caddy’s are great vans.
Maybe great vans, just not great as a Campervan platform, although tbf, with the release of the Sharavan this might be a viable alternative now.

Well the PHV model is out and the price is about 13k euro over the base model ICE Multivan. Should give a good indication of that the Cali version will cost. Probably looking at around 110K euro. Ouch.Hybrid.jpg

If the battery VW stick in the rear is only 13kWh that's only going to give you a range of about 60km under the best conditions (probably 45km under real driving conditions in cooler temps). Really?!? Likely explains why the ICE mpg is so high, having to lug around that heavy battery and additional motors for the AWD drivetrain.

Despite supposed improvements in "real world" mpg testing, it remains blatantly obvious these low-range PHEVs are merely there to function as tax-relief mechanisms and/or permit those vehicles into LEZ type places a straight ICE wouldn't qualify for.

Apart from the BIK tax relief there’s no logical reason (to me) for purchasing a PHEV. Worst of both worlds, normal ICE serving costs and problems, battery range of 10-30 miles, still needs plugging in and no fast charge capability, so realistically can only be done at home, Multivan takes 3 hours 36 minutes according to VW spec sheet. The multivan has a reduced size fuel tank too, only 45 litres. To me they’re a complete waste of time, I’ve delivered quite a few PHEV and the the mpg on a long journey is abysmal, I often get customers complaining that the battery is empty when I handover, hardly surprising as I’ve just driven it 150 miles, 120 miles of which was lugging an empty battery around.

I get 35mpg from a 2.5 tonne, straight 6 petrol with 400 brake. And I don’t hang about.
I think the world’s gone mad.

It all depends how you plan on using the vehicle.
If you are, as many on this Forum are, using your California for high days and holidays and laying it up for 6+ months of the year the a Hybrid drivetrain wouldn't be worth it and they'll just have to avoid the LEZ zones when they start charging for Euro6 diesels and suck up the increased annual VED.
But for those who use it as a daily driver and visit cities with LEZs then it makes perfect sense. But they are in a minority.

So has anyone ordered one?

My dad has a Skoda PHEV and it works for him brilliantly. He does lots of short journeys and the very occasional very long journey. He only uses electric power for all the short journeys and charges it predominantly from his house solar panels (less so in winter of course). On a long run he still gets 60 odd mpg on hybrid mode which is impressive for a large estate car.

I’d say PHEVs do have a niche for consumers but that’s not the reason they exist, that’s purely for the reasons I outlined in my previous post.

No. Time moves on and looking forward to the next phase. Another family can make their own memories.
How are you getting on with your new van? I am seriously thinking of the new Multivan California hybrid to replace my 6.1 California.

I pick up tomorrow 5th November at 3.30. I'll let you know.

Thanks. I've had the 5.1, 6 and now the 6.1. But as you have commented, things move on. Looks like the hybrid 4 motion will be a good fit for me.

Sounds like a BMW....

Yep the Hybrid X5 does 32-37mpg on a run with a flat battery / AWD.....

A 1.4 TSI in a Cali....nope. Wouldn't touch a defender PHEV with the 4 pot 2.0l
