Thinking of jumping ship (iOS to Android)

Jen. They do sell phones but the main thing is a contract free SIM card which is free. You then decide what your requirements are, calls, text, data and then you can either purchase a Goodybag which lasts a month or simply put money on to the SIM.
One thing to watch is that Goodybags don't work abroad, you need to add value onto the SIM for that. However, unlike some providers, there is no time limit when it had to be used.
I have a £10/month Goodybag and put money on the SIM for abroad as needed. You can alter the Goodybag value from month to month depending on your needs.

What's the point of having all this fancy tech if it lets you down when you need it most. Not for the first time, second time, but the umpteenth time, I was left with no power at a critical time.

No, I'm not talking about the Cali. It's my iPhone

And this is not the first iPhone it has happened on.

Every time I go outdoors with it and the battery gets cold the phone switches off, usually as I go to answer a call. Apparently, there is a faulty batch of batteries on the iPhone 6S and mine is one if them. Fair enough, Apple will replace the battery FOC but first you have to get an appointment at the Apple Store and there are never any free slots. I suppose I could post it off but then I've got no phone.

I've had all this hassle with a previous iPhone so I'm thinking of jumping ship and buying a Samsung Galaxy S7.

The only thing that's stopped me doing this previously if that all my other stuff is Apple and it integrates so well. But if the flipping thing doesn't work what's the point!

Anyone else made the jump from VW to MB ... er I mean iOS to Android?

I have a 6s with the same problem (two actually, my wife and I bought phones at the same time). Like you, I could not get an in-store appointment either. I rang Apple and was told that it is not a while-you-wait service anyway. I was offered a send-away replacement service, which I reluctantly agreed to.

A box arrived the next day, which I put my phone into (backed up, remove from iCloud and factory reset). I took it to a post office and got a proof of posting (no cost to post). It was received the next day and repaired the same day. I got the phone back on the following working day. A reasonable resolution to a regrettable situation.

I would definitely NOT try to replace the battery myself, or take it to a third party- it would invalidate the warranty.

Not ditching it, I said "Maybe I will get a cheap Android to put my sim in while it's away, and also to compare the operating system." I need a phone 24/7, so I will either keep the Android as a spare, or if I like it the iPhone can be the spare!

My iphone 6 is both the best iphone I ever owned and the worst.

Battery is dodgy, charging point is faulty, I can hardly hear anyone on the phone unless I use headphones or put them on speaker.

Camera is amazing for a phone and I like the interface. I bought mine straight from apple, its a lot of dosh for something so shoddy. Conveniently these problems all presented themselves after my warranty ran out almost to the day.

Matt, check your serial number on the link posted above, you might be eligible for foc repair ....

..... well I got a "cheap" Android, a Moto G4 Plus, 1080P, 16mp camera, dual SIM, SD slot, fingerprint sensor etc. Ordered it off Amazon last night and it arrived before lunch. Installed ViewRanger, Strava, Garmin Connect, all more or less identical with the iOS apps. Favourably impressed, especially with the camera. Set itself up to backup photos to Google, unlimited free storage.

Here's a couple of close up pics

The Moto one above, you can see the dots making up the print, zoom in to see them.

On the iPhone one below, they are completely missing. Maybe there is some noise reduction on the Apple one which has caused this, or maybe it's just not as good! I'll do some more tests when the iPhone is charged up (yes you guessed).


Maybe the iPhone will be second string when it comes back from repair!

For those looking at 'droid phones, you can buy them where you can just take off the back and replace the battery yourself for a tenner. And you can buy extra memory in the form of a (micro) SD card for a few quid.

Very happy with my LG G3 that cost me a couple of hundred new because it's not the latest model (and has a user removable battery and an SD card slot). And works a treat with the Android Auto in the T6. Nice big and super clear screen too.

I think the slightly newer LG G4 is just another £50 and is compatible with the App-Connect on the T6.

The children all have iphones and they all have battery problems and cracked screens ....

iPhone box arrived pretty quickly, posted it off and it was only gone 3 days. In the meantime had a good play with the Moto G4 and was reluctant to change back when the iPhone returned. Didn't take me long to set up Google photos and I also use OneDrive so any photos I took were added to the ones on there that the iPhone had uploaded. The big screen was also enjoyable and the phone itself was quite light.

However, while the resolution of the photos on the Moto was slightly higher, I began to realise that they didn't look as nice overall. Also, the +++++ app wasn't quite as good as the Apple offering, so I'm now back on the iPhone. But, considering the difference in price I will be more critical when the time comes to replace the iPhone and won't have any qualms going over to Android if the camera matches up.
