Has anyone been to Ireland?
Looking at the reviews most of the site's don't sound very nice

I live in co Kilkenny I think only one campsite here but when lockdown is over I can go and view it for you if that’s any help, ring of Kerry is nice and we have wild camped there few times nice spot, I hope to do more now I have my Cali

My son & I have been to Ireland a couple of times on rugby trips, travelling from fishguard to roslaire & on to Dublin. It is a beautiful country & people were as friendly to us as we were to them.
I vowed to return with mrs rich in the cali and explore more.
As soon as able we're away...

Fantastic island to visit. Amazing scenery, lovely people. The ferry crossing was expensive with the California, and you have to pay on some of the motorways. I got an electronic tag which made things easier. I thoroughly recommend it.

I agree, cost for ferries are a bit high. If we decide to visit the continent by car, the cost for the crossings are the most expensive item on the holiday expenditure. I guess this is the price to live on an island, or the cost to visit Ireland.

Yes, for some stretches of the motorway one has to pay. But I feel that in comparison to other countries it is not that high. Also motorhomes and campers are charged a lower fee. Why this is I don't know, but each time I reach a tool boot they charge me less as expected. If I've been charged the correct amount, I point out that it is a camper and I get the lower fee (and sometimes even an apology).

What I don't like is to pay for the M50 motorway bridge. They scan the registration plate and than the driver has to pay somewhere else, e.g. airport, petrol stations. It is annoying to forget this. I think it is bad for visitors, if somebody uses the bridge more often an account can be opened and they deducted the money for the usage.

Campervans are classed as a car on tolled motorways. If you are being charged a commercial van rate just say 4 or 5 seats to the toll operater and they will change to the car rate. You can open a free account at eflow.ie to pay the barrierless toll on the M50 motorway. I am not sure if the site accepts foreign regestration numbers but as you provide credit card details I imagine it should. If you have the eflow account the toll is slightly cheaper and saves the hassle of paying the toll at a shop or service station.

There's nothing to do in Ireland anyway. There's no scenery worth talking about. There's no culture or history. The food is terrible. The people are really unfriendly.

Better off going somewhere with nice sites...

If you put this into the Google search "site:vwcaliforniaclub.com ireland" it will lead to to a lot of people's threads about this magical place. We were planning to go there ourselves this year, but we are running out of time with the lockdown not showing signs of being lifted.

This is an old picture of Eagle Point campsite in Bantry Bay. Most of the people parked in rows were there because they wanted an EHU. If you were able to manage without and didn't mind a bit further to walk to the facilities you could find areas that were completely empty and very near the water, often with seals basking on the rocks. I marked our last pitch with an arrow, away from everyone with a stunning view over the bay.

The coastal campsite at Doolin, County Kerry on the Atlantic coast was very nice (there's also camping closer to the village, although I can't speak for the quality). The cliff walk there is spectacular and well worth it, although those of fairer disposition may wish to take a long waterproof coat or poncho even if it's a glorious day - the updraft from the many waterfalls stop for no man (or woman). Everyone we met was really friendly, relaxed and in our experience a last minute unplanned pub stopover is almost a given. We did find that off motorway average speed is a lot slower than the UK, difficult to believe I know, driving through every town and village without a frequent bypass - reminding me that it's all about the journey (and checking likely timings from your favoured map app first)
