Do you actually have a date and which VW dealership are you going through?Twickenham
Just be aware the problem is " Galvanic Corrosion " due to 2 dissimilar metals in contact with an electrolytic solution. Land Rover Series 1,11,111 and all the variants upto the last Defender produced last year so 1947-2015 all suffered the same problem. Cosmetic but NOT structural in any way.
Where is the "Holy Sh!t" rating / icon when you need one?Update from mine
It's still in the body shop and they have stripped ready for the new repair method (2 weeks later ) they are now saying the corrosion is to much and want to replace the main roof .... Awaiting someone fro the head of VW to explain what is going on
Where has it been mentioned that the reason for replacing the roof section is for Structural problems.Where is the "Holy Sh!t" rating / icon when you need one?
All along this has been described as an inconvenience, and definitely not structural.
Fair enough, I agree it doesn't state that, but as the roof is now 'stripped and ready' I don't think it's too big a jump. I'm not thinking the roof is going to fold in two, but it feels as if sufficient material has gone to make repair (at best) uneconomic and (at worst) unsound. Both cases are a long way from the assumption that 'out of warranty' owners could (at worst) rub it down and paint it every few years.Where has it been mentioned that the reason for replacing the roof section is for Structural problems.
More likely it is so extensive that it would take a significant number of man hours to make good the damage and more efficient to just replace the roof section.
We had roof and front panel corrosion, Cordwallis sorted out the claim with VW, and about a year later a truck cam and took the Cali away new front Panel, headlining, Bellows, seals and repaint of roof. Took a while but all sorted.

Took my 2011 180 DSG to a van centre's body shop in Kirkcaldy for inspection of roof corrosion a week ago today. The body shop confirmed a corrosion issue on front fixed roof panel and under rubber seal to pop-up roof.
I rang the body shop today to check that my claim had been submitted to VW and was somewhat put out to learn that it was likely to be several weeks before this happens because of the backlog of claims which are waiting to be "re-submitted".
I'm more than willing to accept that those poor folk who have already had a claim submitted and are now told, for some unaccountable reason, that their claim has to be re-submitted should be in front of me in the queue. What I cannot accept is that this unbelievable bureaucratic nightmare, invented by VW, is causing a delay of maybe 6-8 weeks after the body shop inspection has confirmed that my vehicle is suffering from the dreaded roof corrosion issue before my claim will be received by VW.
This is a major international manufacturer behaving like a dodgy back-street trader. Why on earth can it not get its act together?
Do you have a link to the article Andy?Article in new Caravan Club mag about Matt Allwright from BBC watchdog who owns a Cali this may help the watchdog cause re roof issue as he may understand what the forum is contacting about.

He already knows, he is on here already, sadly it is down to the researchers who decide on the stories they cover.

Well after 4 weeks in the bodyshop it's no where near getting repaired. Now it's getting moved down south as the garage it's in can't repair the roof
