Has anyone else suffered bellow damage while their roof corrosion was being repaired?
After 3 years of being moved from one list to another re corrosion - one job type to a 'new and improved' type, I got my gorgeous '12 'Connie' back from Swainsey via VW Bury St. Edmunds.
First impressions were that the trim around the hatch was misaligned. I was going to live with this though, rather than deal with VW again... it is annoying, but I figured that this is the way of plastic trims. However, on first lifting of the roof, we noticed some bellow damage, right at the top on the port side. Definitely been some support arm interaction with the canvas. The plastic insert that folds the canvas in is bent at the top and now, to close the roof, the bellow needs to be pulled inwards to prevent further chafing of the material.
I took it back to VW BSE and they took more photos and spoke with the bodyshop. They (Swainsey) said that the bellows were not something that they would have looked at, and therefore not their responsibility. I know that the bellows weren't damaged prior to going for the corrosion repair - we are religious 'stop-and-checkers' when closing the roof.
VW BSE haven't replied to me so I am going to take this up with VWCS. If anyone else has suffered similar, or anyone can assure me, as I believe, that the roof would have to be opened and closed during the repair process, it would be most useful. I don't wish to speculate to much, but at this time, I am presuming that the bodyshop may have closed the roof and trapped the fabric, perhaps unwittingly.
The fabric could probably be patched, but the major drama is that the plastic reinforcer is bent now. Argghhh.
