Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

Hi all, Is this a metallic paint issue? I have been watching closely but no sign yet.

Nope ... Its an aluminium issue with oxidisation ,prep and installation

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

Not the answer I was hoping for!. The main roof? its a bigger area surely a bigger problem - interesting. Thanks for the update.

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

dissimilar metals. sorry, just found the earlier post. Electrolitic action - that is a long term worry.

No it should not be if they are fixed properly ie isolated from each other, which hopefully will be a part of the new repair process.

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

Everyone with affected vehicles will be receiving a phone call or a letter from Volkswagen with reference to the repair.

There will be four bodyshops carrying out the repair in the country and people with affected vehicles will be contacted to organise booking the vehicle in to get the work carried out.

cheers

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

Hello Alex any idea where the 4 centres will be

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

That will be in the letter and or phone call that you receive from Volkswagen.

cheers

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

thanks Alex, I have not as yet got an issue with rotting roof so will not get a letter was just intrested logistically how it would pan out for Cali owners :thanks

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

When you say that VW will contact owners of affected vehicles does that mean just those who have contacted a dealer with the problem or all vehicles produced within a particular time frame?

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

:help I hope someone who receives the letter/phone call will post the location of these four approved repairers. I talked yesterday to Smith Knight Fay's VW Body Repair Centre in Denton, Tameside and they seemed confident they could effect a repair as they have done them in the past. However if they are not one of the 'Approved' centres then I need to stop them proceeding.

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

Breeze in Poole seem to believe that their VW approved body shop will be trained. Whether that is fact or wishful thinking on their part I guess we'll find out...

It will only be people who have reported the issue to dealers/Volkswagen and have the issue currently on their vehicle.

cheers

I have four or five vehicles reported to me that I have entered onto the system and the approved bodyshop that we use will not be carrying out the repairs but every dealer still has to report the issue to Volkswagen in the same way that we would if we were carrying out the repairs ourselves. When the repair is submitted then Volkswagen have a log of each vehicle and contact owners individually to keep them informed and up to date with any progress with the repair.

The locations are in the letter and it covers four main areas of the country.

cheers

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

So, if there are only 4 places that can do the repair, who is responsible for getting the vehicle to the repair centre? It could be a long way away. Do we take the vehicle to the local dealer who then transports it on or what?

Just picked up my 2010 Cali last week and decided to polish the roof. Noticed a couple of paint bubbles on the upper edge of the front panel above the windscreen up against the rubber seal. Was intending to write to VW UK and file a warranty claim. I would appreciate any suggestions as to a competent dealership to get the repair done?

In all other respects I am delighted with the vehicle.

contact VWCS and they will tell you what to do next .... they way they repair etc has all changed and at the moment no repairs on roof's are being done until the fix has come from Germany .

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

I can now add my van to the list of blistering roofs. Found that both sides on the front panel down near the awning rail have the paint blistering. Add this to a leak in the cab and I I am somewhat disappointed.

Now, do I need to get it to the local VW van centre to get it in on the vw repair list or does it need to go to a California specialist dealership?

This was a private sale but I have a change of ownership docs from VW, so I am registered with them. It's a 12 plate van, so does this fall in the general timeframe for blistering paint?

This forum offers some great help and advice, thanks to you all.

Cheers

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

Take it to your local van centre and ask them to look at the roof paint and submit a claim for you. Depending on where you are in the country you can always bring it to us and we can look at the leak and submit the claim for you.

cheers

Re: Blistering Paintwork Front Roof Pannel

I had pictures taken of my roof today and it's booked in with Carrs at Exeter, so in the next few months, when the repair is authorised etc, she'll go in.

I am fortunate that my roof corrosion is quite minor, but it is still there, I wonder if the solid paint makes any difference, either way, it's there.

As I'd learned about the repair coming from Germany I wanted to make sure the local dealer/bodyshop didn't just respray it. So I phoned VW Customer care and they put me on the system without even having it looked at. It saved a trip to the dealer. :D

I admit, mine's not as bad as some but it's the same roof bonding process etc, so I assumed they would.

I was at the dealer for other reasons lol.

VWCS quoted "stonechip" at me when I reported it after buying mine (ex demo Beach) and said I should have checked before buying as paint wasn't covered by the used vehicle warranty/checks.
Might be worth me giving them a ring again in the light of this new info or if any of the 4 locations are reasonably close to me I might get them to take a look and confirm if it is the same issue or a stonechip. (My bubbles are in a different place to most on here).

That's a poor get out. Mind you, motor trade is famous for them.
