VW Emissions Scandal & The VW California

Very well put LowMan. If this situation worsens, I would be worried for the people who work for VW. Not the CEO's and the like, but ordinary working people who rely on their incomes to pay their mortgages etc. Once the lawyers get stuck like a pack of hyenas, the fallout could be very damaging, and the first to suffer will be those at the bottom of the pile!

If it is proved that the emissions are higher than given, what are the chances of the D V L A clawing back the difference in the V E D?

Just kidding!

I have one of the Golf's likely to be effected and an order in for a Cali. The current situation won't change my mind on moving ahead with the order unless the situation escalated to a point VW's solvency was being brought into question, which is not at this stage. The thing which truly amazes me is the naivety of the company to expect they could have got away with this. All it would ever take is one disgruntled employee in the know. To also try this in the home of the class action lawsuit (good ol USA) beggars belief. As said before the majority of the VW workforce will suffer as a consequence of very poor decision making of the few.

I can see this being like the PPI fiasco in a year or so time once lawyers get hold of it and see an opportunity, if you purchased your vehicle because of its green credentials then people will start to see £££'s for compensation. This is what could cause harm to VW

I suggest they pull out all of the customer surveys filled in after purchase. All those who listed "low emisions" as the primary reason for buying VW will get their money back.

All those who bought because of brand quality/status (and in reality couldn't give a toss about emisiions) etc should be told to get a grip, they've lost nothing.

I will still buy VW. I just hope this doesn't affect the production of our beloved Cali.

Pod.

I don't think there was option for us. I'm not a VAG fan having once owned an Audi A4 so have accepted the California for what it is.

I also said 3years and get rid but we're getting attached to the "little" blighter. (They seem to get under your skin). Off to put my Dubflectas on (hopefully to cure the water on the window switches scandalo_O) and remove the BLUEMOTION badge:stop.

I thought 1st September 2015 was the date for the introduction of EU 6 compliant engines.

Wow I came into this late!! Not quite true, Euro 6 has to be fitted in new models from 1st Sept 2015, existing models have until 1st Sept 2016 to fit the new Euro 6 engines.

Sorry if some of this has been covered as I haven't got time (mmm maybe can't be bothered :p) to read all the posts!!

Of course this only applies to Diesel of which only 4% are sold in the US, although apparently this accounts for nearly 50% of cars sold in the US by VW. So this is a massive deal, and also I think WelshGas said something about who buys on emissions - well we all should - after all part of having a Cali is enjoying the out doors so we should care more about harmful emissions!! If you don't then start caring!

Also adblue is not on the T6 or most other cars - it is mainly on commercial trucks. Also this relates only to Diesel and NO2 not CO2 - diesel produces less CO2 than petrol anyway.

Not too sure why people on here are defending VW so much when VW themselves have put their hands up and said the screwed up :(

Yep they did screw up big time, it doesn't matter if no one here cares, I'm a little disheartened with some of the comments which suggest we don't care about our fragile environment - well I do.

MPG and emissions are tested in a lab in Europe - the only difference in the US is that the limits are so much lower.

Lastly, although this is a good VW topic, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the Cali!!

Suppose I better read all the threads now and decide which bits above to retract!! :) ;) :p

Hi Bluestone,

Add blue is on the new T6 engines - hence the smaller fuel tank to make way for the add blue tank

I stand corrected on this - I had a little research before and it seemed they didn't, just done the same research and it seems they do. Well that's good news at least :)

I will buy a vehicle based on emissions criteria when the Environmental, Green and Politicians get REAL about caring about the enviroment.
e.g.: The Lifetime enviromental impact of the Toyoto Prius is significantly greater than the Land Rover Defender.
Not my words but an Enviromental Audit carried out on Vehicles in, I think. 2012.:thumb

Nice, so no one gives a stuff about the environment then? The very people who own California's to enjoy the great outdoors we love so much, well if people don't give a tuff then there won't be any outdoors to enjoy.

I say it again we should all care about this, if we all do our bit then the world will be a better place to live - I'm a little shocked that so many don't seem to care :(

I'll be honest, I just cancelled my order for a new Golf based on this news - I'll be buying a BMW instead. And I very much doubt whether other manufactures have done the same, this is purely based on selling cars in the US and VW massively promote their Diesel engines in the US as they have no viable petrol alternative for the US market in the models which are effected.

So you don't feel like doing your bit then? So just let everyone else do it first, then you will care? If we all did our bit regardless of what anyone else does then we will make a difference, if no one does it then we have no chance on this fragile world :(

Matt, is that you??

At the end of the day my van is usually stationary.
So less of a problem than when I was working, churing out the motorway miles, foot on the pedal.
When I am stationery I survive on the batteries.
I do use the heater though. Seems to keep me warm for next to nothing.
However I was sold on it being the "greenest " camper van.
Compensation is due.

So will you be abandoning motor racing for the good of the planet and taking up cycle racing? :D

They might ask why you didn't buy the 140 2wd.

Sorry but is this a serious reply? So my 500 odd miles a year in a PETROL car (yep petrol not diesel - after all this scandal is about NO2 produced in large amounts from Diesel cars), equates to 11M vehicles pumping out tons more NO2 than VW have suggested?

I'm sorry but I am astounded by how obtuse people are being to this - even VW in their own words say they 'screwed up'.

I do lots for the environment including walking to work, recycling everything I can, and lots of other things that I can't be bothered to list here, I feel I deserve a little recreational time doing the very few miles in a racing car.

It has been quoted that VW cars may actually devalue due to this scandal - I wonder how many people on here will be defending VW so rigorously when their pockets are hit.

Come on people, even VW themselves say it's a bad thing, in basic terms it is the worlds largest car seller trying to sell more cars and pure greed by telling lies to their loyal customers.

Well said that man.

This forum would benefit from some proper trolling. It might make the mildly-antagonistic views of some of the prolific posters less irksome by comparison.

Different system in Europe. Emissions data is gathered on a number of real road tests not gathered in engineering laboratories.

Sorry GrannyJen - this is not true, EU tests are done in a lab not in a number of road tests:

'Even the VCA, on its website, says that "because of the need to maintain strict comparability of the results achieved by the standard tests, they cannot be fully representative of real-life driving conditions".'
