What do you call your Cali?

When we were first told about the Cali we were given the wrong number plate details ZBE so he was Zebedee (1960’s stop motion Magic Roundabout programme - seemed to fit the laid back Cali credentials) his full name is Zebedee Zebra and I have a small Zebedee toy dangle thingy I bought on Fleabay. All our cars have had names.....

Betty. She's a mojave silver Beach so was going to be Sandy (Beach) but the kids thought that was too much. We couldn't agree and Betty just stuck.

Myfanwy. With the f prounced v (as it should be in Welsh!)

Mine is Belle the Sleeping Car (from Starlight Express)

Snuezie.
Mash up of Sue (SWMBO) and the snooze wagon as now retired and slowing down.

Don't make a habit of naming vehicles, but ours is called Doone - another inheritance story! My dear maiden Auntie Doone (actually second cousin, and not her given name!) was so called because of our family connection to the Ridds of Lorna Doone.
You'll know which one we are as it says it on the plate!

Modestine: after Robert Louis Stevenson's travelling donkey in the Cevennes

Another of the ‘blue brigade’. Called Bruce...... no idea why, just fitted!F32D6270-3BC6-42D1-B46A-6C0A874F5A65.jpeg

Barbara Ann

As we all know, T2s etc were a key icon of the 60s surfing movement, and what better way to pay affectionate homage to that link, and the genius of Brian Wilson's Beach Boys?

Barbara Ann may never be rooftopping Malibu boards, but she's going to see a lot of beaches over the next 100k miles!

Ours is called Bunty - named by our then 5 year old after the boat in Ben and Holly used to catch big, bad, Barry. It’s just stuck and but half the house think Bunty is a girl van and the other half think it’s a boy van.

Ours (when it finally arrives from Germany) is called 'Teddy'. The logic goes as follows...

'Teddy' was Theodore Roosevelt's nickname

Roosevelt was frequently quoted as saying the phrase 'Bully' frequently to say superb or wonderful.

... And from Bully to Bulli

We chose the name Bristol Belle for the link to our home city, and it describes our beautiful original Cali. By coincidence it is also the name of one of the first hot air balloons I was involved with in the late 1960s.
Anyone who knows the City will know the iconic font that Bristol Omnibus had on the sides of their buses. It was unique to the company and is known as The Bristol Font, even though it comprises just the one word, in gold with black edging. I found a local signwriter who managed to copy the font adding the vital second word.
We recently exchanged our Cali and the new one is obviously called Bristol Belle II.

Our coming van will be Modesty, after Peter O'Donnells highly competent heroine, Modesty Blaise.
And for the irony of the rather modest dwelling, at a not so modest price;)
