What have you bought for your Cali today :-)

It's something i've never understood about the t6.1, is all the open spaces on the dash. The T6 has the comfort dash, with everything hidden, allowing for valuables etc to be hidden from sight etc - whereas the T6.1 just went full Commercial-mode.

It's a decent mod.

Back when the T6 comfort dash was standard in an Ocean, but an Option in the Beach.

Ocean owners called the standard open dash the Poverty Dash or a builders Dash as a derogatory term!

How things change !

I assume it was because the latest ‘Caravelle’ is based on the multi van platform vs the T6 so it was deemed uneconomic to create a seperate dash for the 6.1 Transporter?

HIKEMAN Outdoor Waterproof... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C3CMK2QY/?tag=vwcalifornia-21. Just bought 2 of these to use as sun / shower screens for the awning. Already have the Comfortz awning room but wanted something that packs much smaller/lighter for our summer euro trip. Really impressed with the quality for the price - I have some spare kador strip so will make a fixing for the front, and will just use awning bungees to attach to the awning arms.
Mattsv, greetings. I'm considering buying 2 of these for our European adventure this June instead of taking our 40 kilo Vango Air.
We would use them on the left/right side of the van awning.
I'm assuming the dimensions will be fine but wondering how they would attach? Any advice appreciated prior to purchase, thanks.

I am planning on using ball bungees to attach to the awning arms -

And then some short guy ropes on the bottom

Or if I want to put one on the front I will use some offcuts of kador strip that I have with small snaphooks attached.

My use case is similar you - trip to France in June/July and want to be able to easily create a bit of shade/shelter without having to take a full awning.

Bought a calicap rear drawer and build my own "box" of 25cm high.
Considered euroboxes but because i have the 70cm deep version of the drawer (T6.1 has less depth compared to 5 & 6) they will not perfectly fit. They also sacrifice too much space as they have 25mm walls.
On the left side a gap so that my bike workstand and pump (we are cyclists) fit perfectly.

Well the Nord boxes are in.

TL;DR - theyre felt boxes, but compressed so so much that they're more like plastic. Easy to make, easy to use, and make the whole space so much cleaner and tidier.

They're definitely an improvement. Arguably, the rear boxes are the most useful as the shelves are so unique in shape etc. But the kitchenette cupboard ones make life so much easier. The left side are split into a set of two for each shelf so you can pull the right one out first, so you can then pull the left side out.

Overall, a really good bit of kit which settles my OCD tendancies. But still very pricy versus alternatives (Ikea, etc)

Buzzing! We've just gotten our shipping confirmation through from 50°Nord tonight.

Currently enroute are:
  • 50°Nord storage boxes for the kitchen cupboards
  • 50°Nord storage boxes for the tailgate cupboards
  • 50°Nord Cali Board (covers the pop top entrance, stopping cold air falling into the van and gives you somewhere to place items when up there) and most excitingly (for me atleast);
  • 50°Nord CaliHeat so that I no longer suffer hypothermia in the pop top whilst all three of the girls and the dog cuddle up downstairs in glorious Eberspacher warmth.
Why VW placed the heater vent directly underneath the pop top entrance, which sits directly beneath the bellow air vents I have no idea...!

I'll get a video up once they arrive for anyone else interested in them. And as an aside, i'm taking bets whether the other half breaks out the Dymo labeller so I dont turn it all into a mess this season (again). :D
Did you have to pay import tax on this lot?

50Nord sent us the items FOC, so I cant be of help there i'm afraid. That said, their site states:

"For deliveries to Great Britain you will be shown and charged the net price, EXCLUDING VAT. The British VAT will be paid by the parcel service at customs for you and then billed to you when the parcel is delivered, plus any applicable fees.
You pay the applicable taxes and customs fees for your country to the parcel service. They may charge you a fee for this."

I did a 'dummy run' through their ordering system a while ago to try and get an accurate estimate of final costs. I didn't find it terribly clear at first attempt. Their website states that costs include VAT (at 19% EU rate), but when I clicked through to invoicing stage the price hadn't changed even though it said 'no tax', so I wasn't convinced it would be deducted. (This was based on one set of drawers at €183.19).

I've just had another test run toady, this time on the bundle deal, currently quoting €540,00 for EU customers, but I see that this time it reduces to €453,78 when the system recognises you are clicking through from the UK. So it does seem able to deduct EU VAT, but not every time. I'm not sure if this was a cookie / brwoser issue or if there is a minimum purchase threshold to avoid the EU VAT.

I have pondered these but so far I'm not sure they quite justify that level of expense, especially with the unknown quatity of Brexit tax to factor into the decision. If they had a UK distributor and prices were lower (or they offered a substantial discount code) that might sway me, but for now there's other ISOTOP-shaped things closer to the top of the wish list. (On that note I just ordered a Calicap shelf, but that's coming via a friend in Germany, so less risk).

I haven't yet watched the video - maybe that will change my mind!

I am watching this string with interest in particular on the Caliboard and Caliheat, which both appeal. I look forward to any video, and hopefully also a better understanding on which side the Caliheat is best (50degree Nord offers two options and I don’t understand why).

As to the rear felt boxes, they look great quality but seem not high enough to me and quite a price. Those put off but the latter might like the alternative I went for at around £16 for three:

Maybe not quite so aesthetically pleasing but easier on the wallet for sure. The shape of the 50 boxes to take account of the awful T6 wardrobe is appealing. 6.1 owners have more options I think.

I didn't know that the T6 and T6.1 cupboards interior shape varied (I know the doors do); but I have no knowledge of the T6.

On the T6.1, those felt bags I linked ideally need the corner cutting off the top one (as my note) which my wife found easy to do, but otherwise the fit is pretty good as the bags are soft - and rattle free too.

I think the main difference is the T6.1 doesn't have the awful tambour doors and the top door opens to full height, so it's easier to access the open space above the shelf.

This is indeed it. Certainly with both the YesCampervan shelves and the 50Nord boxes, you have to take into consideration that the door rolls 'into' the cupboards and so the space changes a fair bit.

Is the rear hinge door also different? I see the 50 Nord boxes have a little cut out for the hinge on the T6 version, but the 6.1 seem to be more rectangular.

I think the best thing about the boxes is the fact they're bespoke to the Cali and make use of the space in the best way. But it's the 80:20 rule. You can get 80% of the function, for 20% of the cost. But squeezing that remaining 20% of space that these give over and above will cost you an 80%. (figuratively speaking)

If you want to really make every inch of space count, they're a good choice. But arguably, being tidy to begin should be the first thing to look at.
