Hi, it’s time to buy insurance for my new California ocean, may I ask which insurance I should pick: car, van or some special campervan insurance?
Thank you so much.

I went with Comfort after doing the rounds and comparing policies/pricing.Hi, it’s time to buy insurance for my new California ocean, may I ask which insurance I should pick: car, van or some special campervan insurance?

what would you say are the must haves for insurance policy. Should we consider tracker/steering wheel lock ?Safeguard filled my criteria. Multi European trips including full breakdown/recovery.
List what cover you must have and shop around before deciding. They don't all give the same. eg may not give carparking cover at Airports if you do flight packages.
I had no request for extra devices to be fitted nor any offer to discount if any fitted. I do have a Pro-Stoplock as a visible/physical deterrent. I was surprised at needing a Tracker as a previously, cheaper, owned Mobilehome required a tracker.what would you say are the must haves for insurance policy. If you check you will find that Comfort is not part of Aviva merely that they had reference to Aviva when setting up,yes comfort, part of Aviva
Tried Comfort Tracey? Discount too with your username from this forum...Just trying to sort my insurance out now but they are all saying I need a Thatcham 5 or 6 tracker fitted. Is this normal??

Agree, but you need to check which Insurance company they use, Brent acre are just Agents, and some of the companies have dubious reviews. So check carefully.Might be worth trying Brentacre as it is one the recommended ones by the DIY van conversion owners.

I’m glad about that, I won’t require one so I will stick with Comfort who I with last year for our MoHo. The new for old saves a few hundred quid for GAP insurance alone, plus I am currently using the DAS law feature which have been excellent for my personal injury claim.Ok so just got off the phone to Comfort and the tracker is needed because of the value of the vehicle. Apparently, as soon as it gets to £75K you need a tracker. That is the retail of it if I ordered today but it wasn’t when I ordered it so they then tried to tell me that if I was to have a total loss on the vehicle they would only give me the ‘retail’ value when I ordered it! I then had to explain that this then wasn’t ‘New for Old’ and after a long conversation they agreed I was correct. Just going to go over the policies now to see what’s the best
I insured with Comfort, you don’t have to have a tracker. They say you have to have:Comfort have quoted £493.38 but want a tracker. AIB have quoted £475.81, no tracker needed but only £1000 contents. Safeguard have quoted £1354! Am just waiting for Caravan & Motorhome Club to come back to me.
This is our first camper van and is for 3 drivers, on being our son but hes 33, we all have clean licences with no claims.

Not good!sorry to dissent but just been through no fault accident with them and they have been close to useless, had to go to 3rd party insurer to organise my own replacement vehicle, communication is very slow
