WHY DON'T VW MAKE HEADRESTS REMOVABLE..?

I removed mine easy enough by knocking out the split
pin, they can easily be fixed back.

They were annoying when making up the bed so they had to go,
my life has improved since jettisoning them.

This surprises me.

I can’t remember ever thinking that it would be handy to remove the rear head rests. And that’s with the Cali packed for a family of 4.

The area where the headrests fold up into for using the bed is ‘void’ space when the bench is upright, assuming the bench is pushed flush to the shelf. I.e. the headrests fold up into space the space occupied by the bench itself when the bench is upright.

Am I missing something?

If you travel with the bench seat a bit more forward and have the back
packed full under the board then the headrests hit the stuff below and
you need to do some jiggle work.

@Elly Swanson , if you put them back in you would not notice part from they just lift out . I don't know but assume they need to be in place when someone is sitting in the seat while driving , so always put them on for the annual "keuring" MOT so everything is as on the papers , 4 seats.

Understood in that situation. I never travel that way as like to maximise space in the passenger/ living area.
