I should search but I'm in the middle of a *discussion* with lovely OH, who is not happy.

Is the T6 worth getting over a T5? Any major differences that matter? It's just the 2nd hand ones don't seem to be massively less expensive, which I knew but...

Can you run a fridge without a ehu?

Sorry, complete novice.

Fridge runs on ehu or leisure battery if ehu not connected.
If I was buying now I'd get T6 as it's a bit more refined and higher quality dash etc but ours is a 7 year old T5 and it was a dream to drive on our recent hols to Austria/Germany. Did 2000 miles and enjoyed every one!
Why is the OH not happy??

Right, found a post with lots of the differences as OH had gone off to hide/listen to music.

Have my question answered.

Ta.

I think I want a T6, I'm told you can't get a used one easily.

Not helped by the VW used van listings swapping between net & gross vat.

Hereford VW very helpful & great service for my initial enquiry.

I can see this process is going to be fun.

Disagree? Reasons, please?

Never been in a forum with a disagree button...

It might be a slip of the finger when scrolling on an touch screen....

Thanks, having a mild panic attack. He can, of course disagree with my post, just interested as there are a couple of possible T5s to buy and currently no T6s so a discussion would be helpful. :)

For me it would probably come down to budget. Having had an 09 T5 cali for 7 years I'm a bit out of the loop with regards to prices, and know nothing about Beaches T5.1 or T6.
But if the used ones are scarce or prices similar to new then I know what I'd want to do and that's buy new, that 3 year warranty is a big plus and just knowing that nobody has driven it before you is a nice feeling when you jump in!

Often happens with a slip of the finger.

I get lots of disagree's but then I'm often disagreeable anyway.

I've given you an "agree" to balance it up anyway.

Actually think you're lovely, was going to ask you about forum etiquette (as each is different) but couldn't work out the PM thing.

New ones are very expensive & I think take it into the new VED regime, which is unhelpful & expensive. Newish 2nd hand ones are pretty expensive too for scarcity & the above reasons, I think. Bit of a car geek, so still getting my head round things.

The main differences between T5 & T6 are engines, Dashbord, in car entertainment system, different colours and various safety systems. Do a lot of research and you will see what I mean. If you are not bothered by any of these and dont fancy the wait for a T6 to be made for you, then get a T5 and start enjoying your new lifestyle. There is also the cost issue with a good T5 being considerably cheaper. I have the T5 and like Hotel California, I am as pleased as punch with it. To me the updates were not worth the wait for the model to be available.

I enjoy researching & buying cars. There is going to be one to test drive shortly, so we'll see. Lovely husband has stopped being grumpy too, bonus. :happy

Forum etiquette, for me, is simple. Try and treat everyone with respect. This forum for me has been an enormous source of help and support and I think all we really want to do is that, help and support.

You will find everyone supportive and helpful and if unsure about anything just yell.

You have a difficult decision. If it was me, new, as Freeley says, three years when if anything goes wrong then the manufacturer picks up the bill.

Indeed. There are always one or more topics where people feel strongly & it's easy to ask highly debatable questions when new without realising. Longtime user of various forums, always found people really helpful. (-:

I agree with @Freeley, new is very tempting because of the warranty. I've gone for the extended warranty with my new T6 which means 5 years of motoring that will be a little less stressful and costly.

You have to be a VIP, (ÂŁ12.99) to send PM or conversations as they are called.

If I had a T5.1 there is no way i would switch to a T6. Engines euro 5 to 6 plus dashboard.

Finding this mildly depressing. Can't work out what's reasonable price-wise & dealers just usual VW can't be asked or just have sold the one I'm looking at online.

Never mind, onward!

I was in a similar situation, having previously owned a T5.1 140 Transporter that had been converted into a camper. When I was looking for my Beach I was struggling to justify the extra cost of a T6 over a T5, but then I test drove a T6 150 and the difference in both performance and fuel economy was pleasantly surprising (in my 50 mile daily commute my T6 is averaging around 47mpg).

In saying that, I hadn't the patience to wait 6+ months for a brand new one so I stalked a few VW dealers until one of them came up with an ex-demo T6 150 that was VW owned with only a thousand miles on the clock. Not my exact spec, but I could live without the few options i'd have chosen in return for the good price and no wait.

The dealers are saying the nearly new market is very keen due to the wait and the VED change. Bleep ex-chancellor!

Your post cheers me up tho. I just have to be patient, like houses, there is always another one... :)
