Mercedes Marco Polo Latest Info 2017

I am glad others are sharing their views of the MP from what I have seen I just do not like the styling inside so it would not be on my short list.
I am happy to pimp my ride but not that much.

I happy to keep my rose tinted VW glasses rather than replace with mirrored MP ones

I am not saying for one minute that it does not suit some people.but I think that I am correct in thinking that vw are taking their customers for a ride. 1800 for a next to useless out dated sat nav. And if you take the cost of a base model beach with parking heater there is around 6000 for a kitchen smaller then I had in my army flat, and that was small. This level of pricing is only obtained by buyers not demanding better and limitations on the numbers available, its the same sells model used by morgan cars who also produce out dated crap at silly prices.

Hi again, I get lots of rides from VW thanks. They come as standard along with the rose tinted specs. To be fair, I think that both come as standard from Mercedes too.

I have ordered a California beach. Never owned one before so I could as easily went for the MP. The VW is just a more beautiful design. I find the MP looks like an inflated, stretched out version of a car. I prefer the VW higher seating position as well. Over all the California wins it for me. Understated, practical, unfussy with lots of class, without trying too hard. Throw in those rose tinted glasses on top of that and you end up with one of the coolest vehicles of all time.

The MP is narrower externally than the Cali (2,249mm compared to 2,283mm) and not as tall but longer. According to the MP ebrochure the lower bed width is 1,130mm measured across the base of the seats; exactly the same width as the top bed.

Thank you. The various dimensions were something that the sales person could not answer yesterday. I took my Sister along as she is a frequent passenger in Albert and also has a different perspective. Whilst I was anxious about the camping and driving experience she was more practical with things like "can I still get my car in the drive if this was parked there" and she could not even find out the length.

A disappointment as a large part of my positive anticipation for the arrival of the MP was a better dealer experience and to date it has been the opposite. I am sure that will improve as stocks start to move. The nice thing that I came away with is that at least now VW have credible competition.

Two years back I purchased a new c class estate from a Mercedes main dealer. The 2nd day of ownership it was in a independent towbar fitters having a towbar fitted. I was called in by the fitter who had just removed the rear bumper. What I saw was heart breaking. There was a good three inches of water in the boot well,it had been raining on the way to his workshop and I could how the water had got in as a number of spills in the seams had opened up. There was overspray on a number of plastic panels behind the bumper and inside the car. The crumple zone had taken a heavy knock.I rang mb as the fitter but the bumper back on. Took the car back and was told know money back need to pick a second mercedes from them. After I left the sales manager office I rang honest john from the telegraph, mercedes hq and when I was about to call the devon local rag I was told that I would get my money back the same day. A week later that same estate was back for sale.I found out later that it had fallen off the transporter and the damage covered up at the dealership. I dont how much love for mb, but I am interested in the mb. As to people saying its to bling or upmarket for a campervan. Well I have a mate who owns a new rolls. Loves dogs and his car looks like a dustbin. His car he finds other cars to hard a drive and the rolls does drive well. But the faces at the dealership when he trucks up is a moment to remember.

I find MB dealerships on the whole to be dreadful places-pushy salespeople with very little product knowledge and generally quite disorganised. This is a shame because they do make some good products.I work in vehicle sales myself so am probably a bit more switched on to this than most other people and it makes what should be a pleasurable experience anything but.

The MP is always going to get a hard time in a Cali forum-that's to be expected really, and there is no definitive best camper van for everyone-each model has its pros and cons-long term it should advance future models from both manufacturers as they compete to be all things to all people.

I think it's a valid observation that the MP is more 'Ascot' and 'Champagne' than the more utilitarian VW.The points people have raised about the bed taking a little time to fold down I feel is a price worth paying for the split electrically recline seat.Having a grumpy 10 year old it's going to be good that she can recline her seat for a nap if we go anywhere. Its also good that you can have a single bed and 3 seats so 1 person can lie down for a rest. The inflating/deflating bolsters are useful for a flat sleeping surface-even if they are a bit of a faf.One of my biggest bugbears with the Cali is no leather interior(I know it's been pointed out that you can fit aftermarket leather but I would not be keen on someone hacking the seats in my new van-no matter how skilled they are,and I like everything OEM)

Avery valid point. Even grumpy granny's sometimes like a lie down in the afternoon without making a whole bed up.

not sure I am at the moment. I have just seen a person I hate with all my sole driving a vw van. puts me right off the idea of owning one.

I find sales people dreadful.

Sadly I purchase outright so don't need a PCP, GAP and any other ............ However I wont pay an inflated price but I do accept that the dealer needs to make a profit. (I have my own business). MB suggested a PCP when we said it would be a cash purchase.

I still haven't had a revised price for a T6 Ocean. I looked at a two tone last night that sparked some interest but as yet not had a response from the selling dealer.

We are open to expenditure if any VW dealer would like to PM me!

Just get a better one than him :thumb

Well, I think one just have to have luck or find the right person.
The first question my MB dealer asked me was "Are you in a hurry? I f you can wait a few weeks we are going to have great discounts on those and you can save some nice money"
That was a great first impression.

On the radio last night there was a talk about how much people are getting into debt buying cars etc on the book. It was interesting as they had a car salesman on who stated that the car industry is now all about trying to get the buyer to take out a loan.If you go too any car dealer web site there are pages about HP and not much else/ I think that the ever rising prices for cars etc are down to people buying on the book. The reason I drive a BMW and not an Audi was due to the fact that my local Audi dealer wanted me to take out a loan on the car. And I like the softer ride of the Audi but not the sat nav or out dated jukebox thing.I remember when I lived in the states I always wanted a coke bottle mastang. I rang a few dealers and they came to my house with the car. I purchased one only to find that the insurance was higher then the car price.
odd times

Lol. Don't let that influence you. Just get whichever you like best. You'd still be welcome to post your experiences up here, Cali or MP or even a Roller like your mate!

Thanks. I do find this forum interesting. I only wish I could afford the roller, but its more expensive then my house. mind you he worked very hard to get his toys, I just spend too much time fooling around.

Me too mate!

Just a small plug for the Marco Polo Forum(I hope it's OK to post this)

It is the Sister site to this one, owned and operated by the same owners, so we have no problems. We all share the same lifestyle. Anyone who respects anyone else that shares the same lifestyle and the same right to choose what camper van they share the lifestyle in is welcome

I follow as many campers forum as possible, not only the model I have chosen. I love to see the creativity of the people and the love for their vans. Must say, often I'm quite envy of them

Hello Guys well i am back finally after 2 weeks of my European trip in my MP L250 AMG.
Firstly i must say that the mpg is remarkable. In total i have just completed 2700 miles and the average mpg for the whole trip shows at 43.8 mpg and this was 80 % motorway mileage at an average of 65 to 70 mph.
3 or 4 times was i stuck in heavy traffic for 30 mins or so crawling at 10mph and stopping again after a few yards. the rest was town driving and some rough terrain on some dodgy makeshift campsites too plus a 10 minute mad spurge at 120mph on the German autobahn near Frankfurt just to see how it handles and performs.
The handling and driving experience is really nice and comfortable and you soon forget you are basically driving a van but there are a few annoying things too like no cup holders directly in front of you as you have to use the door pocket cup holder also where the usb slots in the front are located under the command consul but above the controller for the roof and fridge and the gap is very small to get your hands in which makes it nearly impossible to connect into whilst driving.

Sleeping in the vehicle is a pleasure ether upstairs or downstairs and is very comfortable.
I am 6ft3 and heavy built so this was important to me.
Putting down the rear seat and air bolstering it up takes way less than a minute and in my opinion is worth the little extra time than the Cali manual rear seat and doesn't require any sort of mattress for comfort.
The roof bed is even more comfortable and with the sides unzipped letting in a slight breeze made my sleeping up there even better than sleeping at home with a window open as it was still in access of 34c at 10pm at night.
Cooking in the vehicle is great and i did make a chicken and vegatable stew in the same time as i would at home and to boil water for a coffee takes seconds.
The multiple cupboards have so much room that i didn't fill all of them even on the way back after the must do duty free goodies from Belgium.
Yes the table and chair scenario is not the greatest and it does take up some boot space but you can fit loads more equipment into that same area along with the table and chairs. I put in all my breakdown stuff required plus 25m hookup leads and all the paraphernalia required to go camping. The draw underneath the rear sofa is large and you can fit a lot more stuff into.
I even forgot to use the bit that drops down from the rear ceiling cupboard thingy as there is even more room in there too.
The fridge freezer thing works too well and if you don't have the internal basket for it anything that touches the sides after a while starts to freeze up a little.

After everything said my personal thoughts are like this.

If i had a younger family with 2 small kids plus a dog and liked to be the outdoor adventurous type i would probably got for the VW Ocean with a couple of extras but would also have a normal car as a daily driver.

Saying that the leather on the MP is very good quality and i had to clean the drivers front seat as the light colour on the bolster was showing signs of dirt from sliding in out numerous times but was done in seconds.

Then cleaned the kitchen smoked glass worktops in seconds also the boot marks on the cupboard doors was a simple clean.

On the floor in the kitchen section i had placed my estate rear floor carpet and it fitted as was made to measure so just a quick hoover sorted that out.

For me the MP is not just a camper its my daily driver too so thats what made me buy the MP and not the VW Ocean as the ocean in comparison is dull and not a nice feel to be sat driving for a long period of time.

Finally out of interest i went to the VW California website and used the build your own up an Ocean to the
exact spec of my MB Marco Polo L250 AMG including interior to light coloured Leather and the DSG transmission and all the other bits and was shocked that it came to well over £68,500 thats before the OTR charges that would of made it a few pence short of the £70k mark.

My MP i got for a few pence over £65k and am happy with it.

Must disagree we use our Ocean as a daily drive . We don't find it dull or not a nice feel to be sat driving . We love it . It's the best car/van we had to drive daily & really comfortable on long journeys especially with Adaptive Cruise.
