Hi - i have seen a classy black 4 x bike carrier on a VW Caravelle in Cheltenham. Does anyone know who makes them. It looks like the VW unit. Thanks

Hi Tim

It's probably a VW one that's been painted.

Have a look at Culprit's ad in For Sale & Wanted > Accessories for Sale.

(There is probably a way I can attach a link for you but don't know it. New to site/forum - sorry!)

I powder coated mine, very hard wearing and looks ace

Hi Wayno,
I've been thinking about doing this for a while now, but was a little put off as I wasn't sure if the coating would get chipped while on the van.
How's yours been ?
Was it easy to source all the new nuts n bolts ? and by any chance do you have a list of what you used.....

Cheers Richy

Had mine anodised satin black

Don't understand why it does that when I upload a pic?

It could be that that your first press on the Post reply button starts the upload, but, because the page takes ages to refresh while uploading, you end up pressing post again because it looks like nothing is happening.

Yep
Every bit taken off and re fitted after anodising

It certainly looks the bomb against the white van.
I've got the T5 style rack too,
I'm just abit concerned that if I start stripping it down and can't find one of the replacement nuts n bolts, it's going to end up in a skip.

Roughly, how long did it take you ?

Ha ha I'm sure it won't,,,
the bolts are all M6, so if you did you wouldn't struggle to get more but be warned it's a crappie job pulling it to pieces I did it on a brand new rack I just payed £500 for and also worried it would end up scrap too .you have to take every thing off it very carefully otherwise it will show up when its anodised so taking your time is key and using your finger nails and plastic pry bars to take off the plastic bits ,drilling out the riv nuts carefully is very important and replacing them with the same size.again to keep it factory,
I hopefully can buy bits to change this one to suit my t6 when it arrives.if not I have to do it all again too.
to strip it carefully it takes a fair few hours just pit everything in bags tagged up if you want a rack that's different for all the others it's the only way to do it..

Yip, I'm well impressed.

I nearly bought the new style bike rack as it looked a lot easier to strip down,
But the T5 rack just looks (IMO) the business.

Well, I think that's my winter project sorted.....
As long as your available in a consultancy capacity if it's going t**s up :thumb

100 percent no problem anything I can do to help just ask :)

Appreciate the offer :thumb

I'll make some enquiries over the next few weeks to see where I can get the parts anodised then take it from there.

Thanks again...

As said earlier in this thread it takes a bit of time to strip, I did mine over 3 nights and again it was a new rack so lots of money if you damage it lol . I spend £60 at the powder coaters but they did every bit !! Nuts bolts washers everything !! Take lots of pics of stripdown as some parts are sides l/r etc... build up was great 2hours tops and they look ace mine has seen in over a year now and well used but it's never marked !! Matt black bowder coating is baked for longer than a semi matt so is also stronger wearing.

Go for it
