Electric sliding side door

Jonnybass, Thanks for your reply, I will certainly keep a eye on that. Hope when i get my Cali i'm not to embarrassed to use the door , bit flash:agreed

Hi Just a quick question, why do you think VW insist on having you to take extra key fobs when you take this extra, four in total at an extra cost of £70 of hard saved cash ? Whats your thoughts. Thanks Glen :(
I couldn’t work out any sort of logic in that one either. It makes no sense to me. However, I would wholeheartedly recommend the electric door. I love it, although I suspect that the safety beeping on closing could be an issue for some owners on camp sites at night.

I had two keys with my van. One was lost (I don't think it was me but that is another story). It cost nearly £200 for another key to be ordered from VW and for the van to be reprogrammed. If I was buying new I would definitely get extra keys as an option, as I would the extended warranty.

Im 4 weeks in with my new cali and I do still feel a bit cringe as it opens to let me step in or if I'm parked and have no room and I emerge from the side door! You do find everyone has a good nose in too!!

Hi Glen I bought the van new in July ,then after just two weeks noticed the marks on the wing ,I took the van to my local dealer (VERTU Hereford) they asked VW for the fix which involved replacing
Are they marks from the door sliding? as in scratches? I have a water mark down the side from the awning and one from the slide part of the door that won't go away! its where water runs down...

Hi Sean,Thanks for that Yes Sliding door I wasn't aware of the beeping No doubt health and safety Has a lot to do with it. I suppose it's better Than having a the voice saying large door closing beep beep. do you know if there is a obstruction the door would't close. :headbang :stop

Hi Glen

Yes, according to the manual, if the door hits an obstruction during closing then it immediately reopens. If it hits one during opening it stops where it is. You can override this by keeping the open/close button pressed (say if the door is stuck on something). You can lock the sliding door separately (for security or in a car wash to prevent it opening during it). Locking it also switches it to manual, allowing you to manually open or close it, without the beep but with more force required. The beep isn’t very loud so I’m not sure camping neighbours would even hear it.

Thanks Sean. Great advice. I’ve heard some people are conscious of closing the door at night trying not to make a noise. I mentioned this to a friend all he said turn the radio up loud to drowned the noise. Really helpful :thumb

wouldn't bother with electric door, if you are camping off grid it takes up your battery. I would definitely go for four keys - lost my set on a walk when away on holiday and it cost nearly £300 to get sorted! My first option when i ordered my T6, absolute bargain! Think about a surf key, too.

How do you do a surf key?

Hi Jonnybase, Thanks for your reply, (I have had the dreaded marks on the wing) Could you elaborate have you had problems :(
You only get the marks on the wing if you try to close the door manually quickly, the best way to do it is to place your left hand on tho back of the door and pull at the same time as you push the handle once it is moving release your left hand it is the initial hard pull that pushes the door against the rear wing.If you close from the inside start of sloowly and you will be ok.
