Cali now sold
Two and a half years ago we embarked on our new life - we bought a new T6 Ocean 150 DSG in Acapulco Blue, now 22k miles later and the scalp of ten countries under our belt, and for all sorts of reasons (non sinister by the way) we have decided to change our Cali in advance of the facelifted 6.1.

On the whole our Cali has been a reliable companion with only the odd irritations - all fixed within our warranty. Faulty tap, bellows, tambour doors, headliner gromets - to name the ones that come to mind.
Delivery of our new Cali is next week. Are we as excited as we were two and a half years ago? Daft question - of course we are!!!:bananadance2

More to follow with pics..........

So you sell one t6 to get a new t6? May I ask why?
Why not!

The amount you'll have to pay to upgrade to a new Cali is always increasing never decreasing. So you have two choices:
1. Change before that amount gets too large or
2. Hang onto your Cali until it falls to bits.

Also some don't like the look of the new T6-1 with it's silly grin and it's arcade game dash display. There's nothing wrong with the current T6 so if it ain't broke why fix it.
The new T6-1 won't be any cheaper and then there's the forthcoming price rise (there's always a forthcoming price rise!), not to mention the effect the B word might have on prices. Also the last of a current model are likely to be as trouble free as it's possible to get as any problem issues should have been ironed out in that model. Better chance of lots of goodies as well.

Yes, of course you can ask.............
All the reasons are too many to list! Call it alignment of the stars but here are some of the major ones!
Borris (thanks btw:thumb) has outlined a few reasons already.
Recent price increase (we ordered before), price increase that will come with new 6.1 model, will need 4 new tyres in the next few months, wanted to have manual gearbox (before VW withdraw option again!), don't really like the new dash (call me old fashioned), The B word - with no trade deal who knows where prices will go - certainly VW are worried about tariffs (hence short delivery times right now) if this is the case, then so am I! We like the extra flexibility of the split kitchen worktop too (we have spent more than 300 nights in our Cali since Feb 2017 and find its the little things that really make the difference).....And our personal circumstances have changed which allow us/make it more prudent for us to do this now rather than in the future.

I agree with kare. T6 to a t6 ? Ocean to ocean I assume? More money. More road tax. Exactly the same vehicle apart from some lights that wont work properly and a split lid I think you will never split. Keep what you have?

Ignore them Rik. If it works for you then that’s great. Hopefully you got your loyalty discount on top of whatever else and got a good price for your old one: have you sold it yet? We look forward to seeing it.

We swapped our T6 for a new T6 back in April. We got a good deal and, apart from it having a few niggling faults, are very happy we changed it. If you can afford it why not? The split worktop is a massive improvement and, despite the fact I told Mrs S we would never zip out the front of the bellows, it does make a remarkable difference on a hot day.

Don't worry FB I am of sane mind as I am sure you are. If you were faced with all the circumstances that I face, you would do what I have done or something similar/equivalent. As I said in an earlier post the stars are aligned. Thanks for your concern but I am OK.
Also I will have a bigger grin on my face than I would have done had I not made this decision. :Grin
Each to their own my friend.

If he's happy spending his money , why should we ask questions ?
I know it has something to do with DSG vs. manual ;)

I would swap my T5 for a new T5 anytime regardless the money...

Good work JW. As of yesterday, we’ve jumped back in with a new Ocean after selling our lovely 2 year old example a few months ago. We don’t know the 6.1 pricing yet but my estimate is that we’d have to find another £15K over and above the deal agreed (OK, we’d probably be forced into a 199 DSG, but don’t want either of these things). With a 5 year warranty and service pack, we’ll be good to go for a while. The only annoyance is the VED. Scandalous, but you’ve got to look at the deal in the round.

We have done similar we went from a T5.1 to T6 Beach and after a year of ownership we are going to a T6 ocean and that is simply because we can nothing wrong with the Beach but our circumstances have changed so we are going that way  and we will probably not able to do it again so we may die poor but we will die happy ;)

May I ask the price difference, did you part ex ?

Thats a difficult one as the new Cali has a much better spec than the old so real comparisons are tricky. What I can say is that I got a similar general discount on the new compared to the old but in addition I got a £2500 "Loyalty Bonus" for the new. Result is about 11.9% discount off list.
Hope this helps.

Just priced up my current spec and it comes to a reasonable list price of £70,780

Very excited for you. Enjoy it! You don’t need to justify your decision to anyone. Steve & Claire

Bottom line for me was it cost £15,000 to swap March 2016 for an April 2019, both 150 DSG and probably a few more options on the new car but nothing too expensive. This was with a £1000 contribution from VW for getting their finance deal which meant I had to borrow £10,000 which was the minimum loan to qualify.

Good luck Rik. Are you a VIP member as I'd like to PM you?
