ROOF SAGGING ON ONE SIDE

Glad that you have it sorted :thumb

Now to see if the old ram can be reconditioned.
No.
The ends are not screwed but pressed together.
Unless there is a way to undo the pressure points, dismantle all the parts, change the sealings, and repress everything back in place without leakage.

Hi Knaifas
the details on how Jon replaced his ram for lifting the roof are basically in his above posts together with the relevant part number which your local VW dealer should supply
However I contacted my local dealership for an estimate to carry out the work and the price was less than £480.00 inc.vat
The part alone costs approx £400.00 so I’m going to trust my dealer to carry out the work!

Hi Alan! Thank you some much for your reply.
i am from Portugal, so i will try contacting a local dealer to see how much it would cost me.
Thanks again!

Hi folks. Just want to post a quick update on the sagging issue and what the issue was. First i got access to the pump by removing the roof, then switched left and right hydraulic pipes. Still sagging on the same side as before. Witch mean that the pump is good. I then swithed the right with the left rams (hydraulics sylinders). Then the sagging changed side. Ordered a new sylinder and replaced it with the one where the roof sagged and everything is good. Have left the roof up in nice sunny weather for two days. No sag :)
Hi, I might have the same issue on my 5.1, how easy was it to change the cylinder? Thanks

Hello all. Anyone know this issue?
Suddenly on my vw t5 california the roof is sagging on one side. It works fine both taking it up and down. There was a fault code 1000 that i removed. Roof still sagging after. Thanks :)

Had same problem on T6.1 and same side sagging. I found lowering it partially and re-raising it fixed the problem for me

I have an intermittent sag on the drivers side.
I usually lower by about 30cms then open fully and it stays like that. We already had one arm on the passenger side renewed under warranty shortly after buying the van.

Thanks for reporting back on the solution @Jon Hermansen I will bookmark these posts for the future.
Hi all
I having the sagging roof issue on the drivers side. Don’t feel confident enough to tackle hydraulics. Does anybody know of a dealer / company that could be trusted to carry out a ram replacement on the south coast area, I don’t mind travelling, living on the Isle of Wight it’s a necessity ,

Mine was fixed at SNOWS Plympton Devon.

I occasionally still get a slow and small sag on one side. It usually happens quite soon after putting the roof up and it is very gradual.
My solution is simply to lower the roof a few inches then just open fully again. That has worked for me for a few years now.
