4D number plates

I hope the OP took my earlier jokey post in the manner it was intended! I've used these people for normal plates without any issues - very fast despatch:

Perhaps we should point the OP to the poll where we established the average age of forum members was about 93, so he doesn't take our feedback too seriously.
2into1......how very dare you!
Our feedback should be taken very seriously indeed. After all we have lived through the fashion mistakes of Ben Sherman shirts and Tonic Staprest trousers, Loons and orange Brentford Nylon shirts, Oxford Bags and Platform shoes, punk, 80’s rolled up sleeves on padded Shoulder suits....
I think that means we are ideally qualified on ‘Naff but seemed like a good idea at the time’ ideas (althoughTonic Staprest with Oxford Brogues were genuinely cool!).
So while I am old enough to have forgotten how this reply started I am not so old that I don’t know how it finishes.....and that’s not with your fancy Dan 4D number plates....oh no, not at all young Man!

Could this be the VW engineer under an alibi ? First post ... and you lot seem to have already scared him off ... again

No, he popped back at 3.58pm today.

I'm looking to fit 4D number plates to the Cali... Anyone got them? Where's the best place to get them? Any recommendations welcomed... Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, we are mostly harmless on here and you will normally get lots of good advice. A good way to get started in here is to show us some pics of your pride and joy.
:welcome

Actually, I picked up my new (to me) Cali from the highly respected Campercentrum Nederland here in Amersfoort last week, and they fitted these threedimensional '4D' number plates as standard. I'd never seen (or at least noticed) this type of plates before.

They do look good. It does make me think that I maybe paid a little bit too much, but then again: they also included a bottle of wine and a couple of VW keyrings!

You can get them at their website. Price includes Cali though, plus the plates will be Dutch ones... ;)

Just looked at 4 Dimension in Wikipedia........ got a headache now.

Sorry folks I've been out and about today so didn't have time to reply to the many and varied responses. Don't worry, I'm thick skinned and not put off that easily. I simply thought the "pipe and slippers" thread had been deleted and you'd all somehow turned up on this one! :D... Seriously though, I've enjoyed the feedback ;)
I'd already stumbled on the website haydnw2 mentioned but always good to get a customers perspective.
I'll let you know how I get on

Haha.....you should try all 10 dimensions...6 to 9 require tough mental gymnastics and 10 requires us to accept things we have no experience of (and never can have).

(And if there are any Super-String theorists out there I accept there ‘may’ be 11 but Bosonic String theorists can take a hike, there aren’t 26.)

For anyone interested Lisa Randall from Harvard does a pretty good job of explaining multiple dimensions....lots of stuff on YouTube. If you watch it, stick with it and accept that some (most) is counter intuitive but is actually true.

And that there was once an entire thread devoted to the merits of Grey Vs Beige

No - it’s that we’re old enough to have seen the whole fashion cycle do a full circle - that does not mean that it’s not appropriate for the time, it just means we have seen it before - so we really should not spoil it for those that haven’t seen it before - that would make us miserable old b.........a

I like the 1956 style but I don’t think they comply anymore ? Does anyone know if that’s true ?

White/silver letters/numbers on a black background can be legally used on any car registered prior to January 1973, i.e. up to end Dec 1972. They are reputed to confuse number recognition cameras.

I have just been talking to a friend who has a classic car who told me that since 2015, cars over 40 years old which are registered as historic vehicles can use the old style white on black number plates. The DVLA website confirms.
