New T6.1 order delays

Had a phone call from Amy at Liverpool today. My june21 ordered ocean 150 is on the list awaiting side assist and did I want to wait !!
Mentioned that I was concerned about the price rises but was told that I shouldn’t be concerned and wouldn’t pay more. Hope so. Was told could be 3 months wait……….

What do you think you’ll do? Good they’ve said you shouldn’t be concerned about price increases as that would be a real double whammy!

Called my dealer today and found that my Beach Camper is scheduled for build in Week 22! Ordered Nov 28th 2021, and dealer reckons I should have it before end of July.. lots of options including Driver Assistance package with this week’s feared delaymaker, Side Assist.

So now I can start reading other threads in this forum again :):) and start dreaming of accessories and trips away..

Pretty sure side assist is more than just the “lights on the wing mirror”. I have it on my Tiguan and seems to control a number of things, from ensuring you don't change lanes with something in the outside or inside lane to making sure you dont undertake on cruise control. Personally I would not be without it as a safety feature. Here is the VW description:

What does Side Assist mean?
Side Assist provides the driver with support for lane changing. Two radar systems at the rear monitor the areas behind the car and in the blind spots at the sides. Irrespective of whether a lane change is intended, Side Assist indicates all the vehicles in the area which is critical for lane changing.

Luckily our Ocean is status 20 for next week so not been hit by this. If I had though I’d wait for the times it’s made driving safer in the Tiggy.
Could the “side-assist” be retrofitted as/when the parts become available..?

When I started at Ford...when they were still building Escorts all cars had a 'full loom' and you just didn't use the bits that were not needed, for example for fog lights. In these modern times the looms are option specific due to the cost of materials so I would agree that retrofit would be highly unlikely

My understanding is no. And certainly not for the 250 drop in price.
However, might be worth a discussion with the dealer to see if they would offer it (at their cost) to return the vehicle to the factory spec.

I haven't heard (from Liverpool) if mine is affected and when I spoke to them last week they just told me it was going into build this week....so who knows...!

Nothings changed, on a vw car you can "activate” a lot of options with a good quality OBD scanner

Just had this update email. No new news but I only ordered in March this year.

Wasn’t expecting any updates as my estimate on the order form was Jan 23

Your order is in progress but it might take a little longer to be built than previously anticipated.

Like many other car manufacturers and industries we are currently experiencing some supply chain issues. Due to the global shortage in semiconductor chips and the crisis in Ukraine, our production capacity is currently reduced. While our primary concern is for the humanitarian crisis in the area, delivery times for some of our models may be longer than we’d hope.

Please be assured we are working hard to deliver your chosen vehicle as quickly as possible and your Retailer will keep you up to date with what’s happening. If you are experiencing difficulties due to the delay, please don’t hesitate to contact your local Retailer who will work with you to find the best solution, and can advise on the limited supply of new vehicles which are available from stock.

We’ll be in touch with further updates and your Retailer will notify you to let you know when your vehicle is due to arrive with them.

I’m pretty sure that’s the same content as a lot of us received via letter in March. Interesting that VW we’re still quoting a 10 month turnaround, that’s the same as we were estimated on our Aug 21 order.

You cannot, unfortunately, retrofit side assist. The options that can be activated are also quite limited to what exists physically. And in some cases, while you can activate them because the code is in the back end software, is no guarantee they will work, especially if hardware is missing. Using ODB codes and dongles to stop your door open light bong is not quite the same as activating major safety functions. As others have mentioned, each loom nowadays is very specific, and side assist connects a lot of associated hardware from door mirror lights to inter connected front and rear cameras. On my Tiguan I have side-assist and wanted to get the driving assist for stop start traffic activated - I asked the same question, half knowing the answer (ex mechanic, worked at Nissan factiry, etc) and they explained it not possible from both a hardware perspective but also from a safety and vehicle homologation perspective. If anyone gets a vehicle specced with it removed for speed of build and delivery, it will be removed forever.

Lane assist and side assist are two different things. I was told the issue was the side assist which is the wing mirror light. Unless anyone had information to the contrary.

That looks to be an error in description on their website. It is fully explained here... https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/technology/driver-assist/proximity-sensing.html

Ah, ok. Again both our cars have that blind spot monitoring but it doesn’t show anything you wouldn’t see anyway. After 7 years of having it on the wife’s Range Rover Evoque it’s not been something I’d miss or rely on.
If you have also gone for the drivers assistance package, including lane assist, the side assist is needed. This helps to protect you moving into the path of a vehicle approaching from behind. It’s saved my goose once for sure. It’s not just a wing mirror light, but tweaks the steering wheel and sounds an alert. Edit: And applies the brakes. Scary but it works!

Do the Calis bound for the south of England dealers go to Sheerness and those for the North to Tyne ?
Yes I’m pretty sure that’s how it is. I don’t know where the line is drawn though. Our van bought at Liverpool van centre came via the Tyne. Past posts suggested vehicles coming via the Tyne are a bit quicker to get through the port than Sheerness, but that might have just been the conditions earlier this year.

Call from our Irish dealer today. Our Ocean is now in the country and will be ready for collection May 26th :)
Ordered when, please, Steve?
