Where to fit a fire extinguisher

Having just watched the below video on youtube

It made me realise I didn't actually have one in the Cali and really unsure where is the best / most accessible place and doesn't involve drilling hole ( unless its really necessary)

is one sufficient and what size should I be looking at?

We got a 1kg from the famous Lidl centre aisle, cost about £10 at the time Fits nicely in the door pocket of our T5.1.

I have two:

- one at the passenger seat (LHD): a power-extinguisher (type ABC) for fires outside the Van
- a smaller one behind de drivers seat, against the kitchen, for fires inside the Van (that type doesn't ruin everything (type BCF).

If a fire inside the vehicle, start it off and rest it upwards inside on the edge of the chair and shut all the doors.
I’ve watched numerous videos and how they have saved vehicles.

I would say the most important thing is having it somewhere you can get at it very quickly. The first thing I would do is get out of the van. Assuming the fire is somewhere near the cooker, I put mine under the driver seat, but I would think twice about going back to the van.

I recently went to a fire safety trip with my son's school. I asked where to put a fire extinguisher in our house. The fireman said they no longer recommend fire extinguishers as they encourage people to go towards a fire.

Two very small screws. It's not on the seat itself: it's attached to the base: the seat slides and turns over it.

I have two Fire Sticks, the small one mounted so I can grab it from the side door and the larger one inside the unit next to the stove top.

If you think that would really be useful (I personally don't) then maybe put it on the 'ceiling' using double sided tape.

I’ve got an extinguisher in my bedroom as my escape route in the event of fire would mean having to go towards the fire to get out!
Worth checking the age of any smoke detectors….. mine were due for disposal at 10years.

Not my position to criticise the fire service's advice... however we're all able to make our own decisions based on our particular situations and competences. At our house we keep extinguishers in two places where a fire might be likely to start: one in the kitchen and the other in the (upstairs) laundry room.

But anyway a car or van is a completely different use-case than a house or flat. In a campervan we want to be considering at least three distinct scenarios. Firstly, a spontaneous fire esp in the engine bay (likely an electrical fire only in a diesel vehicle, so potentially controllable); second a fire resulting from a collision (again, a lower risk in a diesel); and thirdly a fire while parked, especially from cooking. For all those a small extinguisher can be very useful.

I'd be gutted if I had to stand and watch my van and contents burn out because I hadn't been able to control a small fire before it got to that stage. I've always carried a fire blanket in the Cali and have been meaning to add a Fire Safety Stick - they are brilliant. I'll just pop it in the driver's door pocket or under driver's seat.

We keep a powder extinguisher in the driver seat back pocket. Tbh though if it’s a proper fire, in all probability it’ll be an insurance job irrespective of it’s “just” singed units or the whole van is burnt to the ground.

Which bracket did you use for the rear vent under the seat?
Did you end up paying £150 for the pair? (Cheapest I can find)

I used the bracket that came with the Fire Stick, removed the grill and used washers and self tapping screws from the back of the vent into the bracket. So no damage to the van.

So Fire Stick has an account on this forum. @Fire Safety Stick and had posted a Discount Code - I can't make the search engine work at the moment to find the post and I don't want to post a discount code that is in the VIP area, but the total was £140.25 for the pair.
