Hi everyone, I have the sensor error on my control panel and tried everything to get the roof to open with no luck. I have bought 4 new sensors to replace however I have no idea on how to actually open the roof. I have seen posts on how to close it by releasing the hydraulic bleed screw but nothing on how to open it.

Please can anyone help me on how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Re : Update on Roof Problem.
Just updating everyone , I had the same problem with our 2016 Cali , tried everything even paid our local VW Garage to have a look , also an Auto electrician neither were able to help.
In the end took the van down to Cornwall , had the total repair completed in 2 hours for under
£ 400.00 , well worth it .
The roof is now working fine , no more pinging noises.

Just for info, where did you take it

We’ve had the exact same issue from late last summer. Initially would go up, but then wouldn’t. Took the van to Mark at Volksvans located near Matlock and he replaced all four sensors for £350. Would have been less but he had to get a battery directly on the pump motor to get the roof up. A top bloke who I would recommend in a heart beat.

Ex Derby lad… good to know someone in my old neck of the woods is a go to for repairs of a tricky nature :)

I did the same. Nice chap too. His speciality was fitting pop tops. What he doesn't know about roofs,m isn't worth knowing. His sister has a campsite over the road too.

My local VW dealer quoted £2500 for a complete wiring loom.

You can manually raise the roof by loosen emergency lowering screw, and the just push the roof up. It helps to be two persons in this process because it’s heavy. Standing inside, and each person have a wooden pole ready to support the roof when you reach the top. The poles should be around 1 meter and placed at each side, inside where you have a ledge.

Back to basics, broom handles versus high tech electronics.

If the roof was powered closed and fully engaged then the rams lock the roof down and the bleed screw is unlikely to work. This is why normally you have to power the roof motor directly to retract the rams from the locked position.

Yes, I now recall I’ve red that somewhere. I’ve done this before several times, and it worked. But could be that the owner of the car first lowered the roof with emergency lowering screw. Often that’s the case when people have trouble with the roof…
