Solar Advice - New owner

Hi and looking forward to being part of the group! I have just bought a California Ocean 6.1 2022 which has come fully loaded, however I would like to add a solar panel. Can anyone point me in the right direction, I believe they are self fit onto the roof rails, but would like a supplier people have used and would recommend. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
 
Hi - top right is a search button and you will find a wealth of info, fitting instructions and our prefered supplier.

Great! I found his email address after I posted this and sent him a message as I understand he can fit them too as well as supply, we pass by on the M5 regularly so would be ideal for us. Thanks for taking the time to reply! Just got to work out how to use all the gadgets now!

That’s looks great, see you went for the curly cable too. I was looking at that. I have emailed Roger about fitting some for me. I thought I could do it myself but want to be site I do the wiring correctly once I come inside. Thanks for the pic

Hi I had 200w panels on my t5 for the leisure batteries which worked really well but with my new T6 I’ve put in the EcoFlow alternator charger with a delta max so can reverse charge the leisure batteries if needed… I do mainly off road camping in Northern Europe and Spain and really do not miss the panels… I do have a EcoFlow external solar panal if needed but I’ve never used it yet… just sharing my experience …
 
As with every option for a Cali, I wouldn’t rush into buying Solar. I’ve had a Cali for a couple of years now and while I really ‘wanted’ to add Solar, I’ve not done so as I’ve just not needed it. For our useage, the fact that we’re touring around means that the leisure batteries are routinely topped up and it’s easy to manage 2 days on leisure batteries alone.

I’d agree with this. We did “rush” to add solar, and while I’ve never regretted it and it goes us peave of mind, we’ve never really needed it apart from one festival.

The main benefit for us is actually at idle - the van sits on our drive for long periods and the solar just keeps the leisures and starter topped up in between trips.
