901 Bottles

If anyone is thinking about the 901 bottles, these are probably OK for emergency back-up, but they are very small! I bought one for my Cadac Safari Chef BBQ and it lasted for 4 barbecues! It ran out in the middle of a Chicken Tikka for 7 in Somerset last week! Our typical BBQ has been for about 4 and we do load it up a bit. So I'm looking for another 907!

Never heard of a 901 - in fact I assumed your title was a typo for a 907, but a quick google search shows a 901 - it does look very small!!!

We are currently still running a 904, which I have had in the garage for years in the Cali - it fits in the gas chamber fine, just shorter than a 907.

I do have a 907 ready to go in the garage, but I am not going to install it until I have eaked out every last bit from the old 904 :)

A friend of mine has two 907's in the van - one plumbed in, and one for outdoor cooking on his BBQ and Camping Gaz cooker - then again he has no kids so has loads of room in the van :D

Try your local recycling centre for a bottle, usually empty of course but exchangeable for a full one. Ours has loads of them going for a song/free, cheaper than buying new.

I'm going to the recycling centre tomorrow to hunt down a 907. I think a plumbed in one plus dedicated outdoor is the answer. Maybe I can part ex my empty 901!

I got my last 3 907's from my local recycling centre ;-) ... I haven't brought campergaz for the last few years :)

I went to our local recycling centre in Andover who said they weren't allowed to give them away / sell them. They had 3, but they all looked a bit manky and probably out of date. So I called Basingstoke and they said the same - the regulations have changed apparently. Maybe there'll be a special offer coming up somewhere sometime! I remember seeing one in Southampton for £15, but can't remember exactly where it was!!

Look on ebay, always some there, empty & full.

I'm in a bidding war as we speak! Problem has been finding someone near enough to make it worthwhile collecting. Thanks for the advice, all.

A month or so ago Milletts in Farnborough were selling new 907 bottles (air-filled) for £15 in their summer sale. I'm sure they had instructions on where they could be gas filled.

We've used 901s for a while with our Camping Gaz BBQ. They've lasted a lot longer than 4 BBQs, but they're difficult to get in UK. We bought our first in France a few years back, and most big supermarkets have them.

Interesting experience which might help others in similar situations - this July we changed an empty 901 for a full one in a Casino supermarket in Cahors merely by taking the empty into the store, collecting a full one and presenting both at the till. This is what I'd done with 901s and 907s in France for years without any problems, but when I tried this in a Casino in Durkirk on the way back, I was stopped not long after I'd entered the store by a security man, who shouted at me in a torrent of French (no kidding!) and when I said I didn't understand, summoned another TWO security men who demanded I came with them - a bit scary being marched off between three heavies! I was taken to an office where a woman took my empty 901 and gave me a chit to present at the till when getting the new one. All done in a very unfriendly and brusqe way, and my observation that this wasn't usual practice and there were no notices was treated with contempt. French bureaucracy at its absolute worst! :crazy

So despite the risk of arrest etc, are refills cheaper in France than the UK? I have an empty 907 - should I exchange it for a full canister here or on the other side?

for info go outdoors do 901 bottles and refills we keep one as emergancy back up for 907 paranoid it will run out in the middle of nowhere.

Seem about the same in Euros in France as pounds here so a bit cheaper over there.

Unsure if anybody uses these much, but I do for my cadac.
Anyway, go outdoors don’t stock or fill them anymore. To add insult to injury, they wouldn’t take my empty back either.
Had to fork out 72 large for the next size up.
Gutted.
Hoping Chorley gas can help me out...

My quote back in 2013!!! I found that in our T5 the 901 would not work in the van - not sure if it has insufficient pressure but I got rid of it.

Yes not good for use in the van but great for a quick brew on the cadac.
I hope campinggaz havnt discontinued them - I want my bottle deposit back

There has been a shortage of 907 bottles in UK as they come from France. There is a supplier on eBay in Lancashire who will send four out for one courier cost. I think it’s 40.00 per bottle with no exchange.
I pay £23.50 for my exchange bottles have no idea if that’s a a good price but we use 1 in van and 1 to run barbecue and cooker outside.

I think campingaz have discontinued 901 - in UK at least

Now they tell me. I must have missed the memo.
It’s a great size bottle. I can’t understand the idea behind that. I’m sure there will be some explanation.
Looks like that’s my bottle deposit down the swanny
