Adblue from the Pump.

I've used a pump at a BP garage to top up a VW Sharan. 49.5p per litre. Quite a fast flow and a stiff hose - the filler on the Sharan is inside a panel in the boot area, so was quite a delicate procedure.

The one close to me is also a BP pictured in my earlier post. Of course I'm not asking, simply pulling up trying to fill. I may pass that way on Friday, on another weekend away planned yippee

Filled up in the lorry area at Shell Beaconsfield Services. Very large service station and busy shop. No questions asked. 69.9p per litre (motorway prices). Only difficulty I had was getting the flow to start, seemed very reluctant but once it started it was fine and only stopped when it was full. Probably just the way I was pressing it.

has anyone used a pump
Yes, I've used the HGV Adblue pump at a Shell garage in Sheffield twice now. Worked exactly the same as filling up from a 'normal' diesel pump. Flow rate seemed the same, didn't need to feather the flow in any way. And I wasn't questioned at all by the garage when I paid. Also, several colleagues at work fill their diesel Passats up with Adblue from there. This excuse by Shell HQ regarding flow rate sounds dubious to me.

Shell not too helpful and a month to think of a reply

Dear Andy,

Thank you for your email.

Currently, we do not have any advise regarding the availability of AdBlue pumps in the future but rest assured that this will relayed to the relevant team for review and consideration.

Shell endeavors to find ways on how the experience of our cusotmers whenever they visit Shell service stations can be further improved.

Once again, thank you for contacting Shell UK.

If you have any other concerns, please do not hesitate to email us back.

Yours sincerely,
Kate

Can you advise me is shell going to have adblue pumps for car's or are we only going to be offered the expensive bottled product.

Shell fail. no evidence they even understood the question being posed.

VW branded Ad Blue during Warranty or not?
I guess its OK not to use non VW brand just so long as it conforms with required ISO norm.
Any comments/advice?

I use any as long as it conforms to the ISO it mentions in the handbook.

This is a useful site for finding AdBlue at service stations. https://www.findadblue.com/yara-air1/# It does give different answers depending on how far in you zoom and how you search. When I put Bristol area in, it finds a pump at Magor services on the M4 which it can't seem to find without putting in a town. I use that pump on my way up to Snowdonia and it is very convenient.

I can find many "Truck" Ad Blue stations but do they not have oversized delivery nozzles? No good for us Calis? Are we in the process of being stitched up from a price point of view.
And if I am honest I do not feel like even paying Halford prices!
Where is the cheapest ISO compliant Ad Blue?

Depending on where you are it is 69p from the nozzle or 99p from Amazon.

For the convenience when i picked Alfie up I had 20l of Ad Blu delivered from Amazon, compliant with the ISO that VW specify. Shell have now opened up two Ad Blu stations in Chichester so I can just fill from the pump instead.

7,000 miles and I have unscrewed the blue filler cap twice. Nothing for me to get excited about.

I think all AdBlue nozzles are the same size - truck nozzles fit just fine.

Rip-off Britain? You should be paying 30 to 40 pence per litre. That's the usual price in continental Europe. 20% VAT is fine, but I cannot see a justification for fuel duty being charged on AdBlue. Does anyone know AdBlue has duty added to explain the high price in the UK?

Thx GJ. I like the 69p. Just need to find the local Shell outlet with Cali friendly nozzles.:thumb
Thx again.

Oooo.....I like both bits of info here! Truck nozzles fit Calis and 30/40 pence per litre. Maybe I will wait to fill up until I get to Holland.
Thx Tom

I can only answer for the nozzle at Magor Services. It was perfect for the Cali, fitted in neatly and clicked off when it was full. My biggest fear with using the bottles is overfilling with AdBlue. The pump was very strange compared to fuel pumps though, you have to slide a large cover up which then reveals the nozzle. I suppose that is to make it totally obvious that it is not diesel. But quite a few on the Forum fill up from garages, I know that @Borris does and he has not mentioned a problem.

No problem at all. It only takes a few seconds to fill up and it's cheap!

HI Boris. Where do you fill up? We're from the same area and so keen to find out if you've found an Adblue pump in the Canterbury area. thanks

I've not really looked for one in Canterbury. I'd try the Gate Services at Dunkirk on the A2. They have a lot of lorry traffic so will almost certainly have an Adblue pump. We live in a village just outside of Canterbury but I usually fill up the Adblue tank at the BP station on the A20 at the western end of Dover. Their fuel is usually cheaper as well.

The other reason I go there is they have a top notch Bio friendly car washing facility with water drawn from their own borehole, the best I've ever used. I only ever use the jet washing facilities, never the brush as that could have been used for anything. I use this facility regularly to keep the van reasonably clean between the monthly to six weekly thorough wash at home which takes hours to do really properly. It's a system that works very well with no adverse effects on the van. If you try their facilities, I'd recommend starting by using the wheel cleaning button. Having squirted them leave the product until later to wash off. Then use the hot foam pressure wash to clean the van (do the wheels and tyres last) then rinse off with the spot free pressure wash. I then usually use the spray wax followed again by the spot free finish. Doing this every week or two keeps 95% of the crud off the van as well as salt in the winter months. It does a very nice job and comes out looking very smart. No, it isn't a substitute for a proper wash but it just keeps the van in a reasonable clean state between proper washes. It takes one and two pound coins so you can spend as little or as much as you need to. I usually end up doing the whole van thoroughly for about £8.

I have also now found this site that has locations of "Air1" AdBlue ( http://uk.air1.info/en/adblue-supply/adblue-filling/ ).
It seems that all locations shown have pumps:). They even have a section on the web site where price is discussed!
Anyway it may be useful to all that are rather confused or apprehensive about the AdBlue topping up task (including me!) especially after reading the owners manual which seems to suggest that you must not top up with less than the minimum shown on the dash display or more than the maximum.

Edit: A bonus! - the Web Site is updated monthly so should be pretty accurate.

I just top it up from the pump until its full. I've haven't had any issues so far.
