Sadly I pushed to take on a female driver 15 years ago.....she worked her damnedest to take us to court for sexual harassment...only to come to an end when we discovered she was serially targetting companies with the same aim.....it was hugely disappointing and gave the male workforce more reason not to hire lady drivers!Gosh, only the second female lorry driver I have ever seen. Someone I know who operates a fleet of trucks says that there is a huge problem recruiting young people and no doubt female drivers and the average age of a truck driver is around 54, and most are of course male.
It didn’t put me off entirely....it was just a pity that we came across the worst case when I was new to the industry....and it’s difficult to recruit young drivers when the units are worth upwards of £250k.
There are always some gems, but sadly, drivers of any age, like in many professions, just don’t care the same as they used to.
